Spindle rotation direction fix in CAM for Lathes

Spindle rotation direction fix in CAM for Lathes

With a Lathe, the spindle rotation direction for right handed tools is CCW. However, when setting up tools in Fusion 360 CAM, in order to have the tool use G03 (start spindle CCW) you must select spindle rotation CW. I see where that might be confusing because from the tool rotation standpoint, it is CW. However, in a 2-axis lathe the tools don't spin, the part in the spindle does, and again, for a right handed tool, the direction the spindle spins is CCW.

Are there really only 3 people who would like to see this changed? I only have 2 votes. We're going to need a lot more support than that to effect a change.

not only that but selecting CW/CCW doesn't even change the output code (m3/m4) so you have to manually do it.

I would like to see it changed to right and left, or M3/M4 so I don't have to google which one is which ever again.

I am embarrassed to say that I didn't even notice my error in my original post until now, typing "G03" instead of M03 for start spindle CCW.

robert.schmitt, just a tip on the M03/M04. M03 is always the direction of choice for right handed tools setup normally. This is true for both lathe and mill work. Even though the lathe will be spinning Counter Clockwise, and the mill Clockwise. M04 would be for left handed tools or for some cases where you would be using a right handed tool in an abnormal (and often necessary) setup.

That's my point.  Why not change the text in the tool setup from cw/ccw to m3/m4, so there is no confusion?
