Space Key for Pan/Orbit

Space Key for Pan/Orbit

I am working with many different design tools (e.g. the full Adobe suite) and in the past I also worked with AutoCAD. All this programs have one in common: You can press and hold the space key to zoom/pan on the screen. For Fusion360, the space key should allow pan, zoom and orbit.

It would make Fusion360 usable with any 2 button mouse, which is quite common on any Mac computer. It also would make the workflow for many designers more consistent. I also wonder why AutoCAD is allowing pan/zoom with the space key, but Fusion360 not.

Please implement this keyboard combinations:

- Press and hold space + left mouse button => Pan

- Press and hold space + cmd/ctrl + left mouse button => Zoom

- Press and hold space + alt + left mouse button => Orbit

Also add an option to disable zooming using the mouse wheel.

Keyboard shortcuts is the most voted for idea on the idea forum. Right up top in the Poular section of the Idea board.

One might add that this relates to " customizable" keyboard shortcuts or key maps.

With this Saturday's updates phase one is being implemented so that the most used functions will receive shortcuts. Phase three will implement user customizable shortcuts.

These keyboard shortcuts are very personal because users come from different backgrounds and work with different software. I've worked with CAD and a lot of other software for the last 25 years and would find the selection you wish to have implemented and which certainly would work for you rather objectionable for my workflow 😉

Yes, I already saw the idea with Keyboard shortcuts and voted for this idea. But the idea is not very specific about what a keyboard shortcut is. With this last update, they implemented a few shortcuts, but the focus of them is to speed up switching of tools, rather than a more flexible way for pan, zoom and orbit.

I also studed the roadmap and found nothing specific about this topic.

So I added this idea to at least make it clear that the current control concept strongly relies on a mouse with a middle mouse button. If a user does only have a mouse with two mouse buttons, using Fusion360 is much slower.

You know those annoying faucets that have separate hot and cold handles requiring you to turn both simultaneously to get warm water, but give you 5 seconds before needing to press them again for more water. But you're not done, and you've got soap all over your hands. So you're forced to turn them both again, getting soap all over the handles and getting your hands dirty again from turning the handles. Imagine doing that hundreds of times, for many hours each day. Millions of creative users from Adobe, Mac users, and wacom pen users will find themselves learning these same annoying complexities. Welcome to the world of moving within Fusion 360. I really think its a beautiful app til you start moving around in it. This will hopefully be fixed in July 2016. I will become a master at these faucets by then.
