I think there might be two places in the workflow for this enhancement. The one you suggest would be to add sketch entities to an existing drawing (lines, circles , arcs, etc) The other is to allow the creation of a stand-alone 2-D drawing from scratch without 3D model, which I think has been proposed. I think both are good ideas that would add value.
The ability to add sketches in drawing is missing in the drawing module. I cannot modify the 3D model by creating a sketch to show up in the drawing module as it impacts multiple referenced drawings and 3D.
This feature would be great to allow paint masking information to be shown on 2D drawings, my current workaround is to create features in the 3D model to allow such information to be drawn - often I draw 1.0 mm circles, extrude by 0.01 mm and draw a line between the centers, and then shrink the diameters to 0.01 mm so they’re not (too) apparent in the finished drawing.
Also when doing detail views, the center needs to be some feature that’s present in the 3D model, again it would be very useful to be able to manually select the location of the center of the detail view on a freehand basis, rather than to be constrained to click on the nearest existing feature which may not be very central to what you want to include in the detail view.
I find I need to add sketch lines including centerlines, circular Bolt Circle centerlines, and many times I need to show relationships between features on a part drawing. It's a "drawing" and I need to be able to "draw" 😛
I'd like to be able to add a 2d sketch to drawings as I can do in Inventor. Currently my students need to add projection and reference lines in their Orthographic drawing to get a high pass in New Zealand. If Fusion had this 2d sketch tool, we would be using Fusion. But since it doesn't have this feature we use the more complicated Inventor product. Fusion would be the preferred choice in all New Zealand High Schools if it had this feature.
I just cannot believe / understand how on earth the drawing environment got built without the inclusion of basic sketch primitives!! WOW. I find it unusable as it is without them. This a MAJOR deterrent to using Fusion for everyone, and is actually a fundamental basic for drawings. Why is it not in there!!
