Sketch constraint identification and removal

Sketch constraint identification and removal

It would be really helpful to better see what constraints are affecting a specific selection of sketch elements.  I often run into situations where I cannot freely move a group of selected geometry and cannot figure out what is constraining it.

A feature that frees a selection of sketch geometry from any constraints or a way to better see what it is constrained by would be awesome.

Have you made a post in the support or design forum with that sketch. It looks like it's the first sketch in the design so you could make a copy of the design, delete all but the features apart from the sketch and export as an f3d and upload.

To me your sketch sets off several alarm bells. First don't add fillets in a sketch each one adds about 5 constraints to the design and slows calculation. Second symmetry constraints add the most load to solving sketches so consider sketching half of the part, extrude and mirror the solid. If your mirror\symmetry has the fillets then just those, add trying to solve 20+ constraints in the sketch! Lines on top of lines are another problem, it looks like the rectangle in joined to the horizontal line from the other part of the sketch, just draw the 3 lines needed.

Other things that are going to cause performance problems looking at your timeline is using Capture position, really there's no need to use Capture Position in an assembly, it is very inefficient and the same can be achieved using a joint. Also you should take a look at the Rule #1 thread as it looks like you're creating bodies in the top level component then converting to components, this may not be the most efficient way. Last fix the yellow errors when they occur they will also hit performance and are hard to fix at a later date as you'll probably have forgotten what you did that caused the error.
