Sketch computation

Sketch computation

Hello everyone, Hello Fusion 360 development team,

A few days ago, I was creating sketch, I have to create an array of 24 rectangles. There was nothing else in the file yet, I was still working in the first sketch, the software started to become sluggish. After I delete the array, everything goes back to normal. If I create the array again, I will have the same problem again.

What are your thoughts on this one? Anyone else facing this problem?

Regards,

Patrick

Not specifically, but sounds like a pretty bad bug, and the patterning / symmetry engine needs a major overhaul anyway

any news on when that might be?

I wish tomorrow, but as far as I know it's not even in the pipeline 😕

It's know that the sketch engine slows badly if there's a lot of information in a sketch. The general advice is to keep the sketch simple and make your patterns using bodies or features. For example if the rectangles are extruded as bodies or to cut another body, sketch one and extrude then use the pattern tool on the create menu and either copy the faces or select features from the time line.

That kind of stuff annoys me terribly @HughesTooling.. sure we can work around it, but (a) for lots of things I find it most natural to start with a sketch, (b) almost everything I make needs some partial symmetry that I'm currently stuck putting in and maintaining by hand, and (c) the kludge lets us get work done, but the basic functionality is still broken

In general it is better to keep your sketches as simple as possible and rely more on features for patterning and such, mostly because editing features is easier than editing sketches (I find this to be true even in Solidworks, which has a very good sketch solver).  That being said, the sketch solver in Fusion definitely needs work. It should be able to handle thousands of entities without a significant hit to performance.
