Yes this! And then make the part number searchable in the data panel!

I can't believe searching by p/n is not standard from the get-go. Fusion, if you would:

1. make files searchable by p/n,

2. allow the auto-assigning of generic p/ns,

3. feature proper revision control, and

4. abandon "projects" and treat all parts as generic parts that can be used for any assembly,

Then Fusion would truly be disruptive. You have already leaned-out the user interface and functionality and  provided an excellent support community. You have solved my two biggest peeves with the current legacy CAD providers (too many duplicate features, and way too long learning curves). Engineering managers need designers to be effective right from go!

My suggestion is not something that will get community support, because your community is not made up of commercial enterprises. And without these features, you never will get manufacturers on board.

I've just started my own product design business, and want to expand to manufacturing. Fusion fits into the lean manufacturing philosophy very well, where we don't use big MRP systems to the factory, but use simple lean tools, kanban systems, pull-type manual and visual ordering systems, and rely heavily on generic multi-use parts. It's like you read the Toyota Way, but forgot to finish the job.

I don't yet consider Fusion a real disrupter, because I believe Autodesk knows that if it turns on the the above mentioned 4 features, it will cannibalize Inventor. Yes it will, but it will also turn Dessault and Siemens on it's head.  Please, correct me if i'm wrong!

Anyway, i'm finding work-arounds to the above 4 issues and will use fusion for a manufacturing client that I have. It will save them tens of thousands of dollars per year (no need for CAD workstations, costly up-front licenses and yearly subscriptions from resellers) and get them productive immediately.
