Show all hidden Bodies within Components/Better Lightbulbs

Show all hidden Bodies within Components/Better Lightbulbs

Further to a conversation elsewhere on the forums, here's the issue.

When double-clicking and using the V shortcut key to hide components, it is possible to accidentally single-click and end up hiding the body instead. Currently, there is no way to know if a body is hidden unless you pop open the component in the browser and also open the Bodies group within it. If you have a large number of components in your design, as is typical when you're modeling an assembly complete with all the fasteners, it is easy to end up in a situation where you may have accidentally hidden a few bodies, but since they may be physically inside the assembly it is really difficult to figure out whether this is happening and, if so, what components may be affected.

There is already a top-level right click menu option that turns on the visibility of all components. I propose that an extra menu item is added that turns on all components and bodies.

Since sometimes there are cases where this might not be a good solution, I suggest a UI change. Currently, in the browser tree view, light bulb icons only have two states: on and off. I suggest adding a third state, perhaps showing as a half-illuminated bulb or a bulb with a line through it or some such. From a clicking perspective, the bulb is only on or off (i.e., clicking an on or third state bulb turns it off, clicking an off bulb turns it back on), but the third state would be used when a body within the component is hidden. This makes it visible at a glance when bodies are hidden without needing to pop open the component's subtree. The third state would essentially mean 'hidden by something else, so look elsewhere to turn me back on'. It could therefore also be used for turned-on bodies within a component when the component is turned off at the top level. This wouldn't change functionality in any way, but would make the underlying logic visibly explicit rather than implicit, reducing mode confusion from the point of view of users.

Come on Autodesk, we need this very badly. It's not even a feature, but a simple command that should have been in Fusion from day one!!!

Hi,

the "invisible mode", this invert everything that is show and no show, and then you can selet some body alone, or everything that is in the no show to show it.

CATIA, NX, CREO, name it, this is a basic feature normally.

Invert the show and no show, it use different name, visible invisble... no mather, same result, you see the invisble body and can select and put it back to the show mode.

Two years and this is still an issue.

Related to hiding/showing components/bodies, I've often got a component that I've built that gets used in multiple designs. For the sake of the point, let's say it's a door knob. In one design it's on a black door and in another design, it's on a red door. The issue is that the door knob itself is modeled with keys in it, and sometimes I want to see those keys and sometimes I don't.

There doesn't seem to be a way for me to hide the keys in the design with the black door and show the keys in the design with the red door without making new versions of the door knob, other than breaking the link. I'll explain.

If I want to see the black door, with door knob but without keys in door knob. I open the design of the door knob and hide the keys (body or component). Then I come back to my black door design, update the door knob component (which is really slow and clunky especially when connected to the internet). Now the door knob is shown without the keys in my black door design, and that design has an asterisk as if I've changed something and wants to be saved, and the door knob has changed from v12 to v13 or something. I don't want to waste a whole "version number" on visibility. The way I look at it is that I haven't changed anything, I've just changed the view options.

Now, in the black door design I could break the link with the door knob, but what if the door knob gets modified and I want that change propagated into the black door design? If I've broken the link it won't happen. I also don't want my black door, and red doors to be designed with door knobs that have diverged. I want them to be the same, but sometimes I want to see the keys other times not.

I hope this made sense. It's not a complicated concept, but **** is it hard to get what I want in Fusion sometimes, and as hard to explain it. Love the product, but there is room for improvement. Especially on the object visibility front in designs with inserted components.

This issue needs to be fixed like yesterday. It should have been a staple of the program.

As for the "Show all Components", suddenly it is working... Very very odd.. Disregard.

As for everyone else, well, you should just work in Components. For some reason my "Show all components" works intermittently. However, its working now and I can live with this, although that still does not get you off the hook for other types of "show all XXXX" that should be implemented already by clicking on the tab. There should be a "Show all Sketches" that you get by right clicking on the "Sketch" tab, Show all Bodies that you get by clicking on the Bodies tab, and so on... .

Hi,

I think this invert visible-invisible, or show-no show, should have been done allready.

It’s Something that I was having on Strime 100, 30 years ago on a VAX main frame, every software that I know (3D solid) have it (I know many).

But except that, I really like to use Fusion360

Any updates on this. If you accidentally hide the bodies and don't catch it, it's a miserable process to get them all back.

Hi,

I do agree 100%, it’s the only feature that I notice that make Fusion look bad, other then that, it’s really nice, but inverting the hide/show is a must and I can’t understand why this is not done or on the priority list, I was using Catia V5, Strim100, Euclid, NX every other CAD systems that I was using before have this simple feature.

+1000, this is really a crucial and basic feature (actually, more like a bugfix) that's lacking for way too long now. Extremely annoying to search for all those hidden bodies. Can't be too hard to implement, please do!

I'm excited to share that we have added this functionality in our November Release.
Right click any component and choose “Show All Bodies” and the visibility for all bodies will instantly be turned on.
