My project
When creating a physical tubular bridge truss with hollow members you weld together, top and bottom chords and web members. The tubular members you weld together have no end material and are welded directly onto the intersection face of a member.
How I model
In Fusion I quickly create a solid truss of individual solid members and then create hollow sections using the Shell tool. I give the solid members a wall thickness of say 4mm. I then join all members. All good, but 4mm thickness occurs at the end of the member, so what I design in Fusion is different to the real world. I then use the simulation tool for dynamic, stress and deflection output. Extra mass and member end thickness can distort the performance of the truss performance.
Fusion tool
The Shell tool, creates a hollow sections with end thickness.
Fusion tool enhancement/suggestion
Shell tool with an option to create end thickness or not
Top marks to Fusion360 teams and people
A fantastic product, truly amazing. I come from an era of 286 & 386 and basic structural modelling. This is a brilliant and reasonably easy product to learn.
