Select Mesh hit convert / hit convert select mesh workflow!!!

You can select a mesh and then hit convert to TS

But you cannot select convert to TS and then select the mesh.

Both options should work because ofther wise a user could think the

mesh cannot be selected to convert.

Also from a logical standpoint there is no reason why after selecting convert to TS command

I should not be able to select the mesh to convert to TS.

Hi cekuhnen - Good find!  That is certainly undesired behavior.  I've opened a development issue to track this (FUS-12596) and will report back when its in the release pipeline.

Thanks again!

Hi Claas,

It is possible to select a mesh body after entering the Convert command. I believe the issue you are seeing is related to the Selection Filter setting. By default this is set to T-Splines, so only T-Splines bodies can be selected. If you click the mesh icon to the right of this, you will be able to select mesh body inputs.

But there are a couple of issues we can look into here:

- We might be able to change this behavior so that selection is 'free' when initiating the Convert command, and then your first selection determines the type of conversion that you want to take place (we would have to then 'close' the selection filter at this point, because you can only perform one mode of conversion at a time). Does this sound like the behaviour you would expect? Or would you expect something else? Either way, we can look into changing this behaviour.

- Perhaps Selection Filter isn't the right term for this. Really this is controlling the 'Conversion Mode', because this affects both the input and output for the command. We can rename this. Again, if you have any suggestions, let us know.

As you mentioned in a seperate Idea Station post, at the moment we don't have complete consistency in our commands for geometry conversion. This could also get more complex as we add further conversion capabilities to Fusion 360, so we're also going to look more generally into how we might be able to present these options more coherently.

Many thanks!

Hi Jake,

If you add even more conversation modes, maybe it might be a good idea to just have a consitent menu

that includes all the modes to convert from TS to Mesh and others. This way I do not need to switch

to Patch mode just to be able to convert to Brep and not TS when I deal with mesh data.

Hi Claas,

Sure, I think a new strategy would try to take all of the conversion combinations into consideration. One option could be to integrate everything into a single Convert tool, although obviously we'd need to take care not to make this tool too complex. It's an important area so it's obviously something we want to get right. Would be great to get your feedback once we have some ideas fleshed out.

As ever, appreciate the thoughtful ideas, this is really helpful,

Jake
