reorder components in browser

reorder components in browser

This was previously posted by madengineer13, then archived.

"I think it would be helpful to be able to drag the components up or down in the browser tree.  for instance, if I want to take a component created last, and drag it up to the top of the browser.   This would help with keeping the components organized within the browser."

The subsequent discussion included a promise to at least remove the graphical indication that it's possible to reorder parts. This was almost a year ago... and the move indication is still there.

Honestly, I don't really care about the internal workflow limitations that make it difficult to implement rearranging the part list. We need something to fix the weird part orders that turn up while you're designing stuff. Maybe if I were just producing digital copies of existing designs I could keep a perfect part order, but that's not how things go in reality. I have literally lost parts in more complicated designs.

I agree that this really should be fixed. I just spent ~20min figuring out that despite the visual indicator that components can be reordered by simply clicking and dragging them in the component tree, they cannot (which is disappointing).

NEWB F360 user here - and frankly astonished to find that in this sophisticated piece of software you can't rearrange components in thebrowser... this is a basic organisational requirement.

Clustering/grouping components manually in the Browser gets more important as my projects get larger I often have multiples of the same component. The (x) and :x don't help very much since the Browser list is littered with them. Selection Sets help a little by highlighting the set's components but they are scattered throughout the Browser list.

It would also be nice if it showed/explained why something can't be moved between different components... I have a "Eyes and Names" component that currently has two bodies for the eyes, but I can't move the "Names" components into the other component... which I need to do to be able to save the multiple bodies/components as a single STL file (they can't be one body since they aren't touching each other).

Edit: I figured out what was happening... I was at a historical point in time, which was preventing me from moving the component into the other component... and I wasn't getting any errors or anything. Once I went to the end of the history, then I could move one component into another in the tree/browser.

+1, what's the status on this? Seems totally absurd that this isn't a day 1 feature... The fact that you can drag them in the list and it shows a blue line for where you can drop it in the list, but then doesn't work tells me that there is some half baked UI for this, but functionality is not implemented.

Autodesk, why so quiet on this? Is this in the queue to get this resolved?

Thanks

Voted +1 on the archived post, guess I have to +1 again.

YES PLEASE! I sometimes do large CAM batches of hundreds of small components and my stock component sits at the end of this long list. Every time I want to toggle my stock off/on I have to drop down the menu and scroll, scroll, scroll, then toggle, then collapse, repeat, ad nauseam. It's just the GUI we want to to manipulate, not the design order or dependencies.

Thanks Autoteam go!
