Radial Extrusion

Radial Extrusion

I wanted to make an insect's eye, with the hexagonal grid, however, because I can't extrude from a curved surface if would have required manually creating hundreds planes, sketches and then extruding from them individually.

Being able to wrap the construction lines around the sphere and then extruding out from the curve would have made my bee model epic.

you could have used a surface as a cut tool and just cut it

Wouldn't that be a negative extrusion, so still the same problem?

Not at all, you would pull all hex shapes up or pattern one, then cut it with the surfaces the surfaces would be in the shape of the outcome you want.

think off a bit of material laid over the final shape that will be the surfaces, And yes I am not explaining this very well.

Doing it this way you can do one hex and pattern it, then cut the shape out with the surfaces, doing it this way brings the overhead on fusion way down, it makes it a simple object.

It is something I was taught to do in Fusion to make artistic shapes (what I am crap at) and shapes that are beyond Fusion normal day to day use, its the fusion way you can say. I will try to draw an example up.

I'll have a play.  I'm assuming that this is not done through the extrude tool.
