Preview in slide edge mode

The problem I see with slide edge is 2 fold

  1. The effect of sliding an edge is not seen when you move the edge.  You move the edge around to affect a change but you cannot see the effect until the model rebuilds.  This means very slow editing.   Love to see the effect in the surface in real time or at least a higher quality simplified wire frame.
  2. This tool should be used all the time alternating between other transform operations.  digging through the menus is slow moreover it erodes the modelers flow by refocusing the tool rather than the work.

PS thanks for  this tool.

1.  Our challenge here is that as the slide (or bevel) is defined the model is in transition and the calculating the smooth results can be expensive in terms of processing.  Our current attempt is to overlay the wireframe to show the potential change but I agree that is inadequate to resolve the effect.  We will continue to look for improvements to performance as we have made with the "Enable Better Performance" toggle but practically this is a hard one.

2.  I think we could make improvements to flow.  We could consider customization of the marking menu to present commands that are used more frequently or allow the user to define some content for the marking menu.  I can offer that tools that are used frequently can be added to the toolbar.  Note the arrow to the right of each command on the dropdown.  Drag the command from the toolbar when you no longer need ready access.

How important is customization of the marking menu?

My first experience with Marking Menu was with ALIAS.  I worked in an office with people from the auto industry.  We decided that marking menus were to be used as a reflex to design intent not another place to locate tools.  This lead to laying out the three menus with only 4 options each. Customization was key to getting work flows that fit the office.  We decided that all the seats of Alias had to be set the same so that any team member could use any seat.  Customization was critical to arriving at the most natural intuitive work flow.

Fusion is frustratingly close to being awesome.  I find it really challenging and time consuming to find the forms I want with the current tools.  I strongly believe that only a few tools are needed to make it all come together.  All the work you guys are doing will pay off when the user can quickly arrive at the required form.
