PDF drawings need to be smarter

So, I'm working on making vector views of 3D assemblies, by exporting drawings to pdf.

Once I open the pdf in a vector tool (Adobe Illustrator CC or Inkscape), the individual vector entities are separate, tiny strokes, with no fill. I'd like the drawings to "know" the outlines of the components, and make them closed, filled, grouped shapes.

Even better, if the components in the foreground are moved, I'd like the components behind to be also complete, closed shapes. Then, I can "explode" the vector art and hide/show the components separately.

For an example of this, look to SolidWorks.

I can see this making the drawings considerably heavier, so maybe if a "heavy/light geometry" checkbox were included on the drawing dialog box?
