Patch menu is not necessary. I don't find it useful. You could use meshes, patches and solids all in the same environment with no need to switch from model to patch. I also found this I-DEAS feature very usefull: parts became solids only when all surfaces were stitched. If this condition was not satisfied you had a sort of quilt with no volume.

OnShape offers loft extrude etc as one tool and then offers surface or solid as a result!

 

However Fusion offers unlike OnShape also tools that only work with surfaces - so it makes sense that they keep the menu separated.

 

I would rather vote for name changes:
