At the moment we are limited to 3Dconnexion, basically.
I want to be able to manipulate my models using something other than the mouse. I want to be able to select features with the right hand and the mouse while I rotate my model with the left hand, but I don't want my left hand to have to constantly switch between the keyboard and, say, a SpaceNavigator.
Method 1: Allow pan, rotate and zoom to be controlled with the keyboard.
Method 2: Gaming pad or gaming joystick support
Method 3: MIDI. Many graphic design programs support MIDI, thereby enabling users to control software parameters using rotary encoders, a gaming joystick, or anything that talks MIDI. Furthermore, users with basic electronic skills could easily wire up a DIY MIDI I/O board to all sorts of sensors, such as accelerometers, and come up with new ways to interact with the software and manipulate their 3D models. For example, I would like to be able to pan, rotate and zoom my models with my feet.
Unless, of course, Autodesk have an agreement to support 3Dconnexion's monopoly.
