option to save images to computer only instead of forcing to save to cloud

I thought reporting this as a bug would be enough but it seems AD doesn't care because of lack of apparent customer interest.

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/design-validate-document/save-image-not-to-cloud/m-p/6240597#M49788

When exporting it gives you the option to save the file to cloud.
Back in the good ol days it only gave you the option to save images to your computer. As usually instead of adding options AD took away the option of just saving to your computer and now forces the image to be saved to the cloud and only gives you the option of saving it to your computer.
This is very frustrating and results in images cluttering up project folders or more work deleting them.

I agree the your mentioned fix should be in place. But saving only to desktop is definitely possible - open the image in your render gallery and choose download. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the tip that applies to the render gallery.
90% of the images I export are taken in the model work space and are just exporting an image of the current view. I do this all the time to send a customer or client concept pics and to make little changes. So having an image save to the cloud every time is just a huge PITA.

The most frustrating part is that it didn't used to do this.
Every time AD makes a change we say, don't eliminate options that were available before when you "improve" something by changing it.
And every dang time they go and eliminate something that many people like because they think it's unnecessary.

Ah, I see your point precisely and concur. What would be easiest is probably to have three buttons in the save dialogue - "Save to Cloud", "Save to both" and "Save to desktop". A save option directly from the modelling space would also be a good thing, basically a screen shot, croped to the working window without the menues and stuff. The current interface is quite unintuitive.

Most of the time I have a window with Photoshop open, so this is what I usually do - open a screen shot there and quickly crop it to the model. But if this could be done automatically that'd be great.

So um any update @colin.smith?

Been a year, this one is still not in - would save a lot of time for me as well - I don't want images captured in the modelling view to be in the cloud normally, just on my local computer. After capturing I have to go back and delete them from the cloud folder, real pain in the pixel! Smiley Tongue

Please revisit this one!!

They have told me in email that they do not consider this to be a worthwhile issue and have no plans of addressing it in the foreseeable future. Just one more pos bug that we have to live with because it doesn't bother the developers.

As a development engineer I very much understand the need to prioritize features to implement. But this seems a bit strange as this one checkbox feels like something that would take 2h to implement, especially as they should be able to reuse the code from the export function.

That's nothing lol. Ages ago and many times I have reported the bug where if you start a new design and then close that tab cancel closes without saving instead of taking you back to the model. So you could in theory start a design, forget to save for hours, accidentally go to close the tab and when it asks you if you want to save or cancel where every other program in the world for all of history cancel would take you back to the design, page, email etc here it does what (close without saving) would do in any other program. Once you have lost a few designs you remember this but it's still a huge bug/issue that should be considered an urgent priority but no. The first time I reported it they got all pissed at me and insisted it didn't do that. They were looking at some other save screen or something. Then when I insisted this was how it worked and sent them more examples they never even responded back. Typical Ad fashion. Just ignore problems long enough and hopefully people will not notice or stop complaining about them.

This one should be easy to add, the dialogs for Export already have a checkbox on both the save to cloud and save to my computer, so it is already a known-how-to-do feature.
