Offset Plane from circle

Offset Plane from circle

I've run into this need enough times now that I feel like I should create a thread for it. I looked through a couple suggested threads and didn't see anything exactly like this, although this thread seems to paint a broad picture of how F360 planes are lacking in some respects.

Offset Plane from circle.

Simple enough. Often times you'll wind up with geometry such as the attached where it would be really convenient if one could select one of the circular edges to create an Offset Plane from, but it is unfortunately not an option. Would be very handy.

Hello @SEIZMICdesign. I think I have kind of solution for you. It's a bit tricky but does it's job. If we can not simply create plane from the geometry, lets build it!

1. Create point in the centre of the first circular edge

2. Create second point in the centre of the second circular edge

3. Create axis through 2 points

4. Create plane at angle to this axis

5. Project edge at this plane

6. Create plane at angle at projected edge at 90deg

Happy days, we have plane that goes through your circular edge 🙂

And here you can find video of how I did it:

Hah! Well @filipmatyja, that certainly does work!

I just wish wish I could change the name of the thread to “revolved edge”. Much more technically precise wording!
