Off-line data storage and replication to disk or network

Off-line data storage and replication to disk or network

For all the (many) customers, who are depending on F360 for their business, the outage a few weeks ago, was a bad experience.

  1. I think it would be really useful, if you in Fusion 360 could choose to set up replication folder locally, where all your data was always stored locally too
  2. and if you have more installations / users you could choose a local network drive for that purpose that would enable continued access to own and shared files from all workstations on the local network.

I can only imagine how frustrating it must be not to be able to produce for a day because you cannot get to your files.

Local project saving has been requested many times before. The following idea, which has already been marked as "accepted" by Autodesk, already has 506 votes and counting: Locally Store All Files. When it will actually be implemented is a different story, but hopes are high.

@Scoox - yes - I will vote for that too - only difference is I think the solution should support a shared drive also, so multiple users on the local LAN should be able to collaborate even when the server is down.

What you are requesting here is quite interesting though, as it combines the collaborative aspects of Fusion 360 with offline storage. If local file saving was possible, we could use, say, Dropbox, but Dropbox wouldn't allow multiple users to collaborate unless the files were on Autodesk's servers. But then again there's Github which would allow both cloud+local storage and collab—exactly what you are suggesting here (unless I've understood incorrectly).

I wonder how many Fusion 360 users actually benefit from either its cloud storage and collaborative capabilities. It seems a lot of users are lone users. Users who require such features and are serious about version control would probably find the current built-in version control facilities slightly lacking compared with Git or Mercurial.

@Scoox -  I think the cloud aspect is very useful also as a lone user, since it enables me to quickly show designs in the iOS apps to people and have on-line dialog, where I can show designs and discuss them with other people having just a browser. That is really great and powerful solutions in my mind and is a killer feature in Fusion compared to other CAD programs (as far as I know)

I think the cloud storage in Fusion is great however it would be very useful to save all your projects to a disk and keep as a backup, (I have to do this for the work I undertake using  another cad programme which has no cloud storage) so this does highlight the power of Fusion, so come on developers add that little extra and make a lot of users happy.

I agree!

To be the best CAD for trouble-free product design in the real business, Fusion 360 must work with the data at any failure of the Internet connection or repair service.

To do this, you need to store projects locally, allow you to store the cache in the directory of the local network, where there will be design files and metadata for correct synchronization. There ordinary users should not climb.

Storage management will be Fusion, then there will be no confusion with collaboration. By timestamp and user in metadata, multiple saved designs will create different versions with the label of the user who modified (saved) in turn.

You can add projects designs to the Offline Cache, so when the Fusion 360cloud goes down you can continue to work on the design. While the implementation is a little clumsy it does work and it is a part where there still is active development for father improvements on the way.

I am glad they are taking their time to make it work properly, because if they don't this works directly with user data and has the potential to destroy a lot of data if not implemented properly.

While there is no batch export, one can export complete assemblies to one's own had drive for backup purposes.
