New pricing suggestion for hobbiest

New pricing suggestion for hobbiest

Hi!

First and foremost, congrats on the new pricing policy... I'm just speechless of what you are doing... well done!!!

Now let me explain what I would love to be able to do. I'm a hobbyist, I use Fusion mainly to design and 3dprint pieces for my kites and devices. It works just perfect.

But you keep improving fusion and making me NEED the generative design tool ... just cannot pay for the full subscription for something, I believe, will seldom use.

My idea is, would it be a good idea to pay you in a 'per job' basis? Something in the line of the cloud credits or similar. Even with just the credits.

One possible scenario, I'm designing something that I believe can be improved by generative design, then I do my thing before the process and pay for a limited time allowance to use the tools. Something like 1 week for 20 bucks or whatever price you figure. Same with 5 Axis machining, advanced FEA and all the other features not normally available for the hobbyist, but perhaps you can allow us to pay you somehow for what we really use...

Just an idea/dream;O)

Just a bit of info for you. Generative design uses cloud credits now, it costs 25 credits to run one simulation ($25.00) and 100 to download the model. So I'd guess there's a chance it will be made available to hobby uses somewhen but it's not going to be cheap. You can already rent for 1 month might not be cost effective for autodesk to rent for a week.

As a hobby user don't you get access to 5 axis and advanced sim already?

Hi Mark!

Thanks for the reply, I didn't know about the credits being used already for that. It would be nice to have the option of using it at a price. It is not me to decide how, of course, whatever Autodesk decide will be nice to have as an option. As for the 5 Axis, it was just a sample, I have never used it (my machines are 3 axis ...) but if it is already available, great!

Will keep an eye open to see if it becomes available at some point.

Again, thanks for your attention.

Hi Mark,

The issue with cloud credits is, that when the outcome of your generative design- or simulation case doesn't turn out exactly the way you expected, you lose 25 (precious) credits. It definitely holds me back in my design freedom. My boss wouldn't be happy seeing those cloud credits go up in smoke. I really can imagine this will create too much costs for someone who's using Fusion on a hobby basis. "Then the user should attend a Fusion course to minimize those design iterations." you'll probably think. Yeah, but Fusion courses, and especially in-depth courses about Generative Design are also (way too) expensive for the hobbyist. So the idea of Pedro isn't a bad one. You could do several iterations in the time you paid for. Or maybe a maximum of 1 case per 12 hours for hobbyists for example.

I forgot to say that it still is quite awesome that Autodesk launched a program as Fusion 360 that can be used for free for hobbyists and enthusiasts. Not many CAD-brands do this. I sure am grateful.
