Movement direction of Revolute Joint

Movement direction of Revolute Joint

When you animate a revolute joint on your model it always turns in one direction and you are not able to change this by a simple click during creating the joint. To help out you need to create an as built joint and choose the upper or lower side to change the movement direction. Adding a simple check box during creating a revolute joint would fix this.

Why do you think you need to change the direction of rotation? 'Animate Joint' or 'Animate Model' are functions for you to make joins visible and which tells you if there is a joint and how it behaves. If you want to create a motion study or sth else it doesnt matter at all. You could also limit the revolute joint to just physically possible revolutions and it will turn in both directions like in the video shown below.

that's right but take the example of an engine and it should turn in one special direction.

If you create a revolution joint, it will always rotate in both directions.
It just displays/animates you one. You could also turn an engine in the
reverse direction. So if you specify your issue further you want an option
in the joint command where you specify the direction of a revolution.

Following image shows a dialog to create a new joint (revolution). There
could be an option for the direction in which it should be rotateable.
Maybe it would make more sense if you could change the direction of
rotation in the limit joints command, cause it would be a limitation of a
revolution joint.

Thats exactly what I said - to get the possibility to set a direction in the joint dialogue to easily animate the model with the direction you want without the need to set several commands. Just adding a button like in your screenshot.

I think this is a great idea, although some might not think it useful it could be used to show how a revolutionary joint would be restricted within a certain scape. Maybe go for a seperate arrow on the opposite side though instead of check boxes? I feel like that would be alot more usable.

Correct me if i'm wrong on any of this i'm just trying to learn

Thanks

I don't know if I got you right but I think it would be the easiest way to add a checkbox and give you the option to select CW or CCW for your special uses.
