Move/Extend Face

Move/Extend Face

I actually can't find an option to move/extend a geometry in a model like I can do it, for example, with "move face" in solidworks, but there is in almost every cad program, which usually call it"extend feature".

I make an example to make it clear:

I have a sheet metal with holes. if I presspull one of this hole, i can't move it in the space, but i can only offset his value, if I choose to use "move" feature, it can't let me choose faces, but only body or component to move.

Another example could be a piece where you want to reduce or enlarge a side, literally extend it, so also in this case i can't find a way to do it.

Actually I have to do this thing only with sketch tools and a lot of wasted time, and when you have your sketch is quite easy, but when you import a file it will make you crazy.

There is the possibility that I can't find that feature, but if it really doesn't exist, I think this adding could be extremely useful for a lot of user.

Many thanks
Alberto

You can do a lot more in direct modeling mode, right click the top node\filename in the browser and turn record history off. Warning this will delete all history in the design but if it's an imported part it shouldn't matter. What I normally do with imports is start with history off make all the direct modeling modifications then enable history and carry on with the design.

Also if you enable history the import becomes a Base Feature, if you right click the base feature and select edit you will be in direct edit mode and be able to move individual faces.

Yes Mark, you're right, but these modifications often don't happen at opening imported files, it can be at the middle of the project or in any moment, and I can't erase all the history to extend a face!

I think a good compromise can be enable this option in a base feature, which at the moment doesn't allow this.

Just want to check you know you can edit a base feature without deleting the history. Here's a screencast with a quick demo. I've imported a box and lid, made a bung with history enabled then edit the base feature to make the boss longer.
