Motion study improvement ideas

Hello,

I am curently working in the model of a robot, working with joints and motion studies to simulate the robot's movements.

The motion study is a very crutial feature and i feel like it is very shallow with fusion to do anything involving many joints. It would be great to use the motion study tool to create longer animations that can be exported as a video.

The fact that we have to manipulate joints with curves for the angles makes it complicated to animate 360° turning axis (to simulate a motor). I would like to be able to loop play some curves while other curves are not loop-playing, for exemple.

Cheers,

Clémence

I agree.  Kinematics need to be incorporated into Fusion before serious models can be made with multiple joints.

More importantly the motion study should not be closed automatically without saving when pressing Esc key. It is quite frustrating to have to repeat work every time the motion study window closes accidentally.

I agree.  Motion studies currently seem pretty good for making animations but that's about it.  A couple more ideas that would make them more useful:

  • Checking for interference (i.e. move a joint through it's entire range of motion and highlight any interference with other components.  This would be especially useful if you have a lot of joints working together (linkages, etc...)).
  • (as mentioned above) Plotting position/velocity/acceleration relationships between two points in an assembly (i.e. plot vertical velocity or acceleration of piston as crankshaft moves through 360 degree rotation at certain angular velocity).  Added bonus:  export results to excel file!!

All this power of Joints and Motion Studies and no means to get any useful information out !

How about a staged solution :

1. have an option in Motion Study to output a file that lists out all the joint motion data in time?

     - this would just require a tick box interface and some backend code to output data that already exists

     - maybe some 3rd party could write this as an add-in

2. have the option to display selected joint data on the motion graph

    - the graph and joint selection are already there - just add the dynamic data and a way to save it

3. have the option to add parameters off driven sketches to the motion graph

4. checking interference should be a given - this is what 3D design is all about - leveraging the effort

The work around for kinematics is to create videos of the animations and load them into GraphGrabber - duh
