Mirrored Instance

Mirrored Instance

Hello to all the Fusion360 community!

I'm actually designing a model airplane with Fusion360, this software is awesome! I've created custom physical materials and I can design taking account where the center of mass is going to be! I also love the parametric design and the sketching features.

As you may know the airplanes are mostly symmetric as many other complex designs.

It would be really handy to have the ability to create a new instance of a component, like the copy/paste method, but adding the mirror capability, so I can work in the wing and the other wing updates automatically, also it would be handy to have the mirror capability on the move/copy tool.

Thanks a lot!

Gaston.

+100 it's crazy that there isn't a symmetry / patterning engine built in already

Bumping this thread. I agree that active symmetry ( however you want to create it ) is a good idea.

Yes, this seems oddly inconsistent with the way that component patterning works, although I can see why it's a somewhat different proposition from a technical standpoint.

I think the real issue here is that F360 pretends to allow you to mirror components at all. But you don't really get a mirrored component, just a mirrored set of bodies that have been promoted into a new and independent component shell. It's confusing and misleading.

As an admittedly poor work-around, you can keep the mirror operations late in the timeline and work with the recording head in front of them. But that was probably obvious already.

Well, here's your prof that devs don't model. Fusion360 likes to brag about being completely procedural. It's shame considering all that tech is actually built but user experience is not. It's summer of 2017 so let's see how much time it will pass until this point. Btw. solutions like file links etc. are not really solving anything. Fusion is a way too long in development for for workarounds of that kind. Thanks!

Seriously @moth3r the lack of any sort of real symmetry and patterning makes me think F360 was built to demo not to use (and that this has only 8 votes makes me think that there aren't many serious engineers using the software or at least that they're not hanging out here)

Better than mirroring and patterning would be something like this

Greetings,

this idea is similar to the mirror tool but no new component with a suffix (mirror) is created. This tool simply "ctrl+c and ctrl+v" on a component with a symmetry constraint around a plane. So in the BOM in the drawing no new components are added, just the quantity of the original component is 1(original)+1(symmetry component)=2.

Feel free to comment this idea.

Let's make Fusion more awesome together!

I am trying to export the data from oracle DB using symmetry tool but after exporting some data getting the connection reset error . Can some one help me resolving the issue...
