Mirror tool - Join/New Body option

Mirror tool - Join/New Body option

Hi,

currently when mirror a body you can only create a new body mirrored, even when you want a joined mirror body.

If you need a joined body you have to use another tool, the Combine tool (adding cliks, enlongating the timeline and with no general improvment to design /design intent)

It would be great the ability to choose that adding this option:

Thank you!

Hello Fusion 360 Team,

There is an idea request for a Mirror Bodies without joining by Samenor ( http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-ideastation-request-a/mirror-without-joining/idi-p/4657015 ).

Would be nice to have a check box in the Mirror dialog box "Combine" or not, so you can choose what you need.

Thanks for reading.

Best regards,

Ludo

Hey, thanks for you idea!

Today when you do a mirror body, if the body is adjacent (touching) to the mirror plane, the mirror will automatically combine the mirrored part to the part being mirrored and you'll end up for 1 body.

If the part being mirrored is not touching the mirror plane, you end up with 2 bodies.

Are you asking if you can still end up with 2 bodies, but have them technically shown as 1 in the browser?

Hello Keqing,

Thanks for your reply.

No, just the choice to combine or not combine even when the mirrored part is adjacent to the mirror plane, as you wrote, now, when the part is touching the mirror plane, the result is automatically combined.

Checkbox "on": combine. Checkbox "off": do not combine, end with 2 bodies.

Best regards,

Ludo

Hello Keqing,

Noticed that "Mirror" no longer combines automatically when mirror plane touches the mirrored part.

It still would be nice to have the choice in the Mirror dialog box.

When part is not touching the mirror plane: 2 bodies.

When part is touching or intersects the mirror plane: have the choice to end with 2 bodies or with 1 body combined.

Best regards,

Ludo

What would be nice is to beable to mirror a feature from one side to the other. I am moldeing a gun turret and make a door on one side but can not mirror to the other side. Have to turn object and draw the door .

We have this in our backlog. We need to look at the priority of this project against our other projects but we do plan on offering something like this in the near future.

This is pretty much the exact feature I was looking for. Any symmetric body is probably going to be designed as a half-body and mirrored as a final step, so wanting to merge is very common (hence that being the prior default). Functionally, the current state of affairs is fine since you just follow immediately with Combine, but it does niggle at me that these are two separate operations. Vive la choix!

It would be awesome to add this functionality to the Circular Pattern tool as well!  Every second counts.

When I started using Fusion 360 3 months ago, I thought it was perfect. Now the more I use it, the more I find it lacking, even though this is my first encounter with CAD software. I wonder how Inventor compares to Fusion 360.

Workaround is to use the Combine tool, but this really doesn't need to occupy a position in the Timeline.
