Measure/Inspect Improvement: Parallel Faces

Measure/Inspect Improvement: Parallel Faces

Along with the multiple requests I've seen here for a thickness measurement, I'd specifically like to see "distance between two parallel faces". And not merely the ABS distance between face centroids, please... if I select two faces, and you detect that they are parallel, just give me the shortest distance between them.

Moving to F360 from CATIA, I really miss features like this... and they aren't that hard!

Measuring from the edges is just as easy don't you agree?

Ah, no.

The two faces need not be congruent, so any selected edges (even if parallel to each other) will not give the distance between the planes of the two faces.

Now, I can construct a plane at each face, and measure the distance between those,  which is just ridiculous.

I can pick two vertices on each face and get the XYZ deltas... but that's only of direct use if the faces are aligned with the axes.

Not sure I understand.

If I select 2 parallel faces I get the distance between their planes or are you after the diagonal closest distance.

Putting on my best Roseanne Roseannadanna voice: Nevermind...

I was convinced this wasn't working... today, the results are marvelous. Must have been fast work by the Fusion 360 team!   Smiley Very Happy

Sometimes this doesn't seem to work but it's because the faces are slightly out of parallel but the angle shows 0.000°. The precision option for number of decimals doesn't work for angles ( a long time bugSmiley Frustrated), because of this you need to go into your preferences and set the angular precision to 9 then you'll find there's a very small angle between the faces.
