macOS: Fusion 360 should not add itself to the dock after each launch

Fusion 360 should not add itself to the dock after each launch.  Moreover, it should reside it the Applications directory like other apps (a shortcut would be ok) and be findable via spotlight (see image).

In general, Fusion should respect the platform it's running on.

Totally agree!

While I like having Fusion into the dock, the spotlight problem is really boring, and finding the Fusion executable is a real pain, for exemple if you need it to create an alias somewhere. And it also leaves spotlight confused to not see it in the application folder.

I concur.

It is not just about the dock itself BTW, it is the way Autodesk manages the whole application. This looks like a mere work around over of the way updates are performed and new versions are installed into deep subdirectories. Autodesk should follow proper platform guidelines and STOP overloading the Dock, bypassing users' choices.

I do not start nor want to start Autodesk from the Dock, getting rid of this stupid icon every time I close the app is boring.

Not only that, but in the process of adding itself to the Dock, it kills and restarts the Dock. When it does so, some apps that are currently running lose their notification badges. It is decidedly antisocial for an installer to force-restart the dock!

No response?  This is very anti-Mac behavior.

Yes, this completely breaks the expected behavior of the dock. If I click the icon left by the installer it will launch another instance of Fusion 360, instead of bringing the running instance to the foreground. Very frustrating.

BTW, another Mac-unfriendly behavior: beware that as Fusion 360 does not install in /Applications nor ~/Applications, but in ~/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/... it is backed up by Time Machine with the default TM settings.

This means that every time Fusion 360 update itself (that is at a quick pace), it overloads your Time Machine volume with over 2GB of useless data, if Autodesk folders have not been opted out from TM folders.

On my machine, the Fusion executable is in ~/Applications. What is in ~/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/... is all the other files that used to go into /Application/Fusion 360/Contents.

~/Applications/Autodesk Fusion 360.app seems only to be a wrapper, as
it weights 220KB

However,

~/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Autodesk Fusion 360 weights ~
35MB, while
~/Library/Application\ Support/Autodesk/webdeploy/production/*/Autodesk\
Fusion\ 360.app is about 2.5GB each…
