linear pattern with maximum step between pattern features and start end point

Hello,

I would like to suggest a smart feature that I am used to using in CAM software.

I wish there would be an option to enter the start point and the endpoint of the pattern and put in the maximum distance between the features to be patterned and let Fusion calculate the optimal distance which would be =< than the "maximum distance between instances" that you would be able to put in.

So if you get an instruction like "you need to place a fastener at 100mm from the end of the work piece, then at a maximum af 400 mm intervals and at the other end again at 100mm from the other end of the work piece and your work piece length might vary a lot then Fusion would calculate the optimum result when you change your work piece length. If anybody knows how to do that in Fusion please leave a message. Otherwise I think it would be a real time saver feature and perfect for dynamic parametric models.

Important would be that the algorithm selects the next smallest allowed spacing being as close as possible to the "max step" or "maximum measure between instances" without just going way smaller just to make sure.

I have been trying to find a solution to this for a long time already and it does not seem to be available straight off the bat even in SolidWorks.

Here I have a link to a video I uploaded a while ago about exactly the feature I am asking for taken from a proprietary CAM software, it explains the situation quite clearly. I have basically fixed some features (holes) to a certain offset from the ends of the work piece and then given in that the maximum distance between these may at most be 400mm. Then when I change the length of the piece the pattern updates automatically the amount of holes needed to fulfill the condition "maximum step 400" ... they are never spaced apart more than 400mm. Also they are spaced at an optimal amount below the "maximum step" so that there are no unnecessary ones added. And the first and last feature live along at a specified offset from the end of the workpiece, in fusion that might be e.g. an edge of a solid etc. Or fusion would allow you to just add a dimension to the last feature of your pattern, right now it just makes a driven dimension.

I love Fusion 360 a lot and use it for my personal projects but could think about using it in the professional environment in the future. Thanks so much for any feedback on this.

P.S. I think this feature could be handy in lots of situations related to different construction works etc. where a maximum distance between some elements is defined by a supplier etc.

Christoph
