Leap Motion Support

Leap Motion Support

Help me build some arm muscles: make Leap do something in Fusion!

It would be fun to model with my fingers, but that seems very difficult to do well enough at this point. I'd love to navigate with Leap. It would be an amazing conversation starter, a fun way to present models to others, and, with proper Leap placement, potentially useful for modeling.

David, this is awesome. I know this was thrown out as an awesome idea during our meetup in Portland. I love that we live in a time where ideas like this are actually possible.

tdtwohy, Leap Motion's web site says (support > search "system requirements"):

A native integration for Leap Motion could eneable many nice things:

- Hand sculpting, so you could move surfaces with your fingers, extrude change angles etc. etc. (with combination of both hand commands)

-  Navigating, you could just use the camera with one hand, so you can quickly change the view.

-  Animation of mechanisms, also useful in publisher for exploded views.

The leap is cheap enough to compete with leading 3D controlers (which by the way still don't have support for Fusion 360)

I just found this thread while searching for a way to use my Leap Motion with Fusion 360 as a spacemouse. I'm primarily interested in viewport navigation right now because I don't have a proper spacemouse, but being able to sculpt with two hands would be an awesome addition to the sculpt environment.

I'm not sure how often I would use it in the model environment, because most of the commands are just as simple to do with my mouse, if not easier (ex. Extruding, revolving, sketching, etc.). I also want to have my free hand on my keyboard to enter numeric values for those commands anyway.

The move tool I would use in all the environments probably. I believe the newest version of the software identifies each hand and finger by name, so you could use the index finger tip for the cursor. A thumb and index pinch to "grab" or start the move command and watch the hand orientation to determine if it should be moved along an axis or plane, or if it should be rotated.

I think the addition of devices like this is actually more important than traditional spacemice. Those devices are very limited in their functionality when you consider all the possibilities of multi-finger and multi-hand gestures. I think designers would much rather have a device like this keyboard/Leap Motion if it means they can grab an object, flick their hand upward and instantly pattern it based on the acceleration of their fingertips and the number of fingers used. Obviously there is the whole other feature of being able to sculpt with two hands, which is something that could even get children or less experienced adults into 3D modelling because it's so easy.

The only drawback I can think of is the accuracy of the tracking. It should be accurate enough for most actions, and anything precise can be done with the numeric inputs or the align tools.

It would be really awesome to try and get just viewport manipulation integrated now so that people with the device can test it's accuracy and report any issues with using it.

Thank you for idea - this is getting archived due to lack of votes and the amount of work that it would require for integration.

Cheers,

Any updates on leapmotion integration?

maybe the leap motion can be integrated in a way that you can move the model with your hand or without modeling it.  Even SpaceX is using it

Anyone using this in Fusion yet? Leap Motion

I am currently designing using the 3D mouse, 3dconnexion and I love it, would be nice to see if anyboddy found some other mean of navigation in fusion 360.

Would love to. Carpal tunnel is killing my design productivity.  I have a Leap. Would even be willing to help develop.
