Joints in Animation Workspace

Joints in Animation Workspace

We really need the ability to suppress and unsuppress joints within the animation workspace.

I'm having a hard time understanding how this could not be a part of the animation workspace to begin with. Of course when animating multiple objects of an assembly, you'd want to be able to control where every component is at specific times of the animation. I've attached a couple images as an example. The requirement is to animate the construction of a plywood box. The first image shows some of the parts after being cut out from a single sheet of plywood. The second image shows the final position of all the components.

This cannot be accomplished by merely moving and rotating individual parts as there are approximately 40 individual components that need to be moved to very specific locations in this example. (All of which already have joints set up for them). In this example, I would need only to be able to suppress and unsuppress joints as needed so that the parts will move to their correct position at specific times in the timeline.

All it would take is to have visibility of joints in the tree while in the animation workspace in order to have the ability to suppress and unsuppress them as needed. I've seen in other threads (though I'm not sure its been in the IdeaStation before) where this feature was promised in January 2016 to become available during "next year." When will this feature be added to the animation workspace?

Bryson White

It is crazy to me this doesn't exist currently in the software and how this is not a priority. In it's current state, Autodesk should rename animation to explode.
