Improving acessibility: mouse pointer feedback for selection / snapping & etc

Improving acessibility: mouse pointer feedback for selection / snapping & etc

Currently when ever a mouse near a snap point, there light blue square popping up at the nearest point.

This is very hard to see.

Here are some suggestions to improve such visual feedback for accessibility reasons:

1) Thicker crosshair and selectable alternate "crosshair" symbols, e.g one with yellow highlights or an antenna beacon radiating arc lines icon.

2) At snap points, turn on multiple concentric squares or circles, each of different colors, and also allow blinking

-Innermost square or circle is smallest, next is 2 pixels or more larger, outermost (3rd) is slightly larger.

Each square or circle should have a unique color ( Red, blue, and green ).

Allow each items to blink alternately.

There are many other ways to do these improvements for 1) and 2).

Making such choice selectable would be nice.

3)  Allow for white background on canvas.

Gray is the worsg contrast choices you can have.

Other existing background are not much better.

These suggestions  if implemented, will help with :

a) color blindness

b) visually challenged

c) improving the depressing look and feel of overall UI and UI interactions

d) and last but not least, those who are no longer spring chickens... Smiley HappySmiley Very HappySmiley Surprised

Right now the grade for UI quality is C--, on a good day.

Here is another need for improving UI:

Implement intelligent menus.

or at least some semi-intelligent menus

Example:

When I right clicked on a rectangle in a 2D sketch, that is connected to other objects,

a context menu pops up.

One of the choices is Move.  If I click Move, a Move dialog pops up.

But I am not able to move the rectangle.

After a few tries it still does not work.

So now the new user is getting frustrated....

and eventually they never want to use Fusion 360 again.... becuase of such conFusion

There are several, if not many, such painful scenarios.

In the above example, here are some possible solutions:

1) The Move menu should not be available since the user have to do

pre-Move steps to move the rectangle.

Instead, display a "pre-Move" button to allow user to prepare the desired object for moving.

2) If you want to keep the Move button, at least show in the dialog

an option to unlink or unconstraint the object so it can be moved.

3) Other solutions .....

Intelligent menus are the basic requirements for the 21st century software.

OK, correction,  we already have intelligent menus capability in the late 20th century....

Hmmmm..... may be it should a human right also.... Smiley FrustratedSmiley SurprisedSmiley HappySmiley Very Happy

Implementing these usability features would save a lot of time allocated for support.

That said, I can see a lot of potential for Fusion 360m.

I've griped about this very thing where symbol glyphs are getting to be very difficult to see. It's almost as if they prefer pretty to functional at times. A good dose of contrast goes a long way in knowing you've hit the correct point on a drawing.
