Improve Sketch Line Weight

Improve Sketch Line Weight

The line weights of Sketch lines and Dimension Leaders should be different, or at least changeable in the preferences.

Sketch Lines and Sketch Dimensions all appear to be the same width, or "weight." An extra line or lack thereof can often be overlooked due to being colinear with a dimension leader. And, in a somewhat complicated sketch, the thicket of dimension leaders and sketch/construction lines can get debilitatingly confusing.

Conclusion: The difference between Leaders and Lines should be more obvious.

Hello @Anonymous

Thank you for posting the idea. We agree that due to line weights being the same it gets confusing at times.

We are currently exploring possibilities of improving the overall visual experience with the sketch lines. It might take some time to get their because it is very much a personal preference as well. But, for sure we are working on this issue and should be able to come up with a better solution.

Thank you for your patience and support.

Thank you,

Best Regards

Great to hear Rohit. REALLY looking forward to sketching UI improvements - its THE thing that seems slower and not as good cf SolidWorks FWIW the rest of F360 is better - just different .. (except maybe finding stuff / organising the timeline).

The sketching environment is one of THE least clear, especially coming from a Solidworks background. I thought it was just me, having skipped ACad 🙂

As well as differentiating dimension lines:

  • Make it clear where lines overlap - and be able to select in such a caxe (eg to delete a duplicate line).
  • The projected lines function (purple lines and points) whilst very powerful seems to have a mind of its own.
  • Once projected why cant such lines act just like regular lines eg extend, cut etc. with just a relationship icon to show where they came from (which can be broken).
  • Points - OK I get that the policy is to make point markers disappear where 2 ends meet (is that a ACad thing ? ) but it makes seeing and selecting such points a pia (especially when there are dimension line over them).

Great idea.

In addition, I suggest you add the option of choosing the color of dimension lines and their texts.
In its current form, it is very difficult to distinguish dimensions from sketch lines.

Can't agree more with my fellow designer !

Any updates on this ?

Not being able to differentiate lines and line ends, duplicates and dimension lines in sketch is a MEGA FAIL in an otherwise BRILLIANT CAD system.

Hello @MAS.DPL

Thank you for circling back. I am happy to update that, if everything goes right without any blockers or any major issues, this feature should be available in the next release.

We have worked on an overall overhaul of the colors, thicknesses in the Sketch.

Thank you,

Rohit Bapat

Hello All,

I am happy to update that, the latest update of Fusion 360 has thick Sketch lines. It includes color changes to match better with the overall color theme of the Fusion and also, thicker lines will help identifying the dimension lines vs sketch lines easily.

Please have a look an let us know if you have any feedback!

Thank you,

Rohit Bapat
