It would be a great feature for those of us who have to create models with a lot of decals to have the ability to rearrange the order of the decals on a face. Example: You have three decals on a face that all overlap and you need to make the bottom one (the first one applied) now sit on top of the other two decals. It would be nice to have the ability to right click on that decal and choose "Arrange > Move to Top/Front" or "Arrange > Move Forward/Back" etc. Similar to what Adobe Illustrator has. (See attached screenshot) And for advanced decaling, where you may have a smaller decal under bigger ones and not selectable, a window or something listing the bitmaps used and you can move the order using up/down buttons or something. Introduction: In a similar manner as the part family identification concept. Assemblies can be identified with motions rather than features, however we are interested in grouping the motions and parts together that would be otherwise manually recorded data from assembly animation observations. All data is extracted from CAD model no outside calculations from other software needed.   The premise for this assembly  idea is the following:   Sum of the Parts   +   Sum of the Motions  =  Assembly   If you look at a explosion view animation in 3D CAD; it is exactly motions and parts coming together to make a unified constructed assembly. RAL captures the motions extracting from the software -explosion view animation data :  The vector direction, distance and type of motion rewritten in an algebraic format to be used to group similar bodies and functions together. Thus allows a designer to build fixtures and G code assembly tool commands to capture efficiencies that might otherwise be missed. After you make an explosion view of assembly , you select  RAL and the expression is written out by the Fusion 360 for export or for use in design module at designer’s discretion   Example 1:   Simple box with lid and 4 bolts 1 hollow cube -one open end (1Cub)  with 4 threaded holes at corners with a lid (with 4 thru holes) and 4 hex head bolts.  The 1Cub is stationary (stat),  the Lid is offset Zln set distance above the 1Cub and the 4 screws are set  further back from the lid in Z direction (which is vertical up and down).   1Cub(stat) + Zln (dis1) lid  +  4ZHLX(dis2)Blts =  Assembled Box.   Hypothetically what if you had: 4  smaller lids/ 1 box  and  16 bolts Then; 1Cub(stat) +  4(Zln (dis1) smlid  +  4ZHLX(dis2)Blts) =  Assembled Box.   So what does this tell us? Both the lid and bolts move in the Z direction: the lid needs robotic placement to be put on top of box. The robotic tooling must place and locate the bolts and feed them into workpiece with helical path (HLX) advancement.  The HLX symbol would tell the software it needs tool   IE .. ARR-12 screw setting robotic tool to install the bolts.   The power of the algebraic expression can be used for much more complex assemblies than this box example.  The nomenclature and expressions are not limited. Multiple bodies moving in the same vector direction create more opportunities to use advanced modular tooling and fixturing and/or same tool to accomplish multiple assembly tasks.   The strong point for this short hand capability is that you can assess if the assembly should be completed with human touch labor or machine. Looking at the expression, it lists out how many bodies and translations that need to be accomplished for the assembly to be completed. Fusion should have a tool to bend and taper a solid body after it is created? I had to use blender to bend a mesh copy of an intricate body of a Celtic knot because creating the weave in it’s final, bent state in fusion became an impossible job. It was just to hard for me to make hundreds of overlapping steps(up, down, left and right) and then having it curve along multiple surfaces. The tool would have saved me days of hard work. Having to export into Blender as a mesh, then bend and tapper the mesh and export from Blender back into a file that I could import into Fusion leaves the model  barely editable in Fusion. Bending a body in Fusions natural format is the correct way workflow wise to get the job done with precision while keeping the body editable. Also I realize the bending within sheet metal is somewhat possible. I just cant see how it would an effective option in circumstances like mine. When looking at file versions, there is no option to view the full version description (see screenshot).  I suggest that, for example, clicking on a specific version expands the "rectangle" of that version to display the whole description. When clicking on a different version, the rectangle of the previous version contracts to the original size and the newly clicked version expands and shows full description. Show More

whenever we lose date it is sometimes difficult to recover past files. So, integrating autodesk gallery will help us. Like, for example let us say we want a past file which does not exist on pc or in the data panel but exists in autodesk gallery,  then opening that file directly from the gallery by integrating gallery with fusion would help and i hope this will be the best feature to save time. I can't count how many times I needed to add something to a sketch and have visual reference of some bodies that disappeared because editing the sketch rolls back the History Marker.   For example, I create a body based on a sketch, than copy that body and move the copies. Then I want to keep editing the sketch while having an idea where the copies are. So I essentially have to make a new sketch in the same plane.   I know this is less likely to be an issue if you are modeling something that you have already drawn before and are just transferring it to CAD. But often times, I am doing the designing while modelling.   Having the sketch elements timeline aware instead of the whole sketch would allow for sketch editing without rolling the History Marker, while also preventing feedback loops in form of referring to future entities that refer back to the sketch.   Show More

Hi,      It is very tedious to select top or bottom individual faces in Form tool for sphere/ quadball. Suggest that a quick popup icon be created to select top or bottom half of sphere/quadball to allow faster start of deformation  to make desired part shape. Hi guys, I have a new product idea that would be a great addition to the full spectrum of the autodesk product range and would ideally be used as a stand alone front & backend server stack, similar in some ways to an existing server product called 'OpenStack' but obviously being a stand alone of autodesk products and features.   Firstly,   Maya is a great stand alone product, this software is a cut above many others on the market, but it does lack in some functionality that would allow the product to excel to a whole new level.   Connecting Maya with Fusion 360 would on any computer give great functionality for any design team, however as a full server stack with added render farm (large selection of existing companies or another future product range of render farms owned by autodesk) , whether that be in house or connected via network distributed via CDN while encrypted via VPN and protected via military graded ssh, vpn, vps etc would in essence reinforce this product as a stand alone server stack improving rendering times and speeding up productivity.   The use of Virtual Private Server integration for this new stand alone server stack product fully encrypted using military grade ssh & VPN encryption would further add to protecting ideas, designs, further enhancing and  protecting patent applications, full spectrum design team communication via private video conference calls (evolving to a google glass type future communication system between teams, employees, management etc) to improve and speed up work flow would create a product that the competition could not compete with.   Another idea to integrate into this is a Crowd Funding Platform integration suite, direct in fusion 360, twinning autodesk accounts with existing sites such as kickstarter, indiegogo as well as topcoder etc would in essence completely remove all the existing lag that exists within the innovation community and would give autodesk a platform to completely revolutionize how we do business online.   In order for many of these things to work seamlessly Autodesk would also need to evolve into it's website a new product called 'MarketPlace'.   Marketplace would be similar to #Envato market or video hive and would be a one stop shop for all product files to be purchased via Autodesk License which would in essence protect the products at a primary stage and enhance the creators application for patents while allowing them to generate revenue for selling their products.   Marketplace would also benefit Autodesk because again the company can make a small profit from each download of project files, work arounds, rendered models, and other goodies available on the site, but this system would open up Autodesk to consider releasing a new product license agreement where design teams agree to release their work to marketplace in return for a place to showcase (via company or freelancer profile; company/freelancer portfolio) their work and generate profit from the sales of downloads of their products as either a B2B or B2C basis, this would allow Autodesk to generate revenue from each product "PUBLISHED" which in most cases would amount to more revenue than your typical autodesk product licensing revenue per team, this in essence would allow Autodesk to outperform competition and fully release all of its products via marketplace license for "FREE" forever so long as the products are published to market place at whichever level required by product design teams, whether B2B, B2C etc using simple processes such as keywords, iso standard tags etc...   It would also be a great 'marketplace' to expand workforce by b2b, b2c, b2f, c2b, f2b etc accessing professionals across the autodesk network, e.g. freelancers, coders, plugin creators, extension creators, the list is endless, all the time autodesk gets to build on these concepts and manages to create additional revenues from multiple streams while at the same time releasing it's software range including this server stack as a free open source license or autodesk limited license (protecting your code) as part of the server stack all of these connections can be integrated via a simple invite via the sharing of a public ssh key that would handshake any freelancer into another server stack to work alongside existing product design teams, the vpn and vps system protected by autodesk load balancers, military graded encryption keys etc, bringing Autodesk further and further into an advanced 21st century take over of the market.   i'm using Fusion 360 via an education license, which i cant thank autodesk enough for because it is giving me the ability to learn more about the product via the academy, although i cant afford certification at least i get to be trained by the academy for free and i have a 3 year license.   this educational license is an outstanding thing and i'm sure i wont be alone in saying so, which is why i feel that if the marketplace was built along with all of the above then these licenses can be free forever, for all.   This is just a general post about a server stack i haven't even listed all of the integrated product features and how they would integrate with 5D or multiple axis printing, cnc milling etc, but in essence these platforms as a stand alone full server stack would benefit autodesk for years to come.   if you are interested in seeing more of these product ideas then please get in touch michaelm1312515@gmail.com Show More

In a previous submission, ideas were offered how to measure complexity in CNC parts. Sheet metal parts can also be complex and need a ranking system early on in the design cycle. Since both  CNC and sheet metal have a surface element count, The same complexity approach  can be used.   The simplest part is a bent angle  -This is the standard of simple and has  x surfaces Your complexity value is  total number of surfaces of complex part divided by surfaces in a bent angle. Other value to consider - holes, notches, slots, emboss and indentations etc.  should they be 1, 2 or 3? My suggestion is get with top sheet metal customers and  test various values, ratios, operations and criteria to determine a worthy system. The benefit is ranking part designs and discovering too complex unworkable designs early before committing to building, prototyping and other manufacturing operations. We'e not able to open the design because it references designs from a deleted project."  I think it would be a solid idea to give more info on which deleted files the model in question was referencing or giving any potential courses of actions. Autodesk,   The first thing I noted with Fusion 360 is the lack of input customization for mouse. No worries, this is typical across most CAD, so I (and others like me) use programmable mice/keyboards which allow for application-specific profiles.   These are generally activated on focus to the application based on a static path location (e.g. Notepad at "C:\Windows\system23\notepad.exe"). It's a static install location for that executable, and thus if you set a profile based on this application, the software changes the button/key profiles based on focus to these location.   So, regarding Fusion 360. For whatever reason, you opted to use a dynamic install location like the following:   C:\Users\%user%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\webdeploy\production\fe3aabe314e26a9de16467d8eecb0c30acd7712b\Fusion360.exe   And then proceed to change this path every time you update the application (or some such trigger). This results in a non-static reference to Fusion360.exe, and thus breaks the profiles every time, requiring manually updating the path in the input software.   Other CAD systems do not have this issue (e.g. Creo, NX, SolidWorks, FreeCAD, etc.)   AutoDesk seems to be basing Fusion360 as a use-friendly, dynamic system which has potential of standing up to the other "big boys". However,this kind of dynamic deploy with non-static base executable locations will play havoc with enterprise deploy systems.   Based on this issue alone, I know the CAD IT department in my corporation would never seriously consider Fusion360, and this is likely true for other corporations.   Please consider addressing this issue.   Thank you,   -Eric Show More

As a technical illustrator who generates training manuals and specification documents, I constantly capture screen images (using SnagIt) to copy-and-paste them into an illustration program.  I need to be able to capture multiple images of any particular model from a variety of viewing angles, but I need to be able to do so using the exact same "screen zoom value" for each one. I have used other CAD programs that have a feature such that if I click on the "magnifying glass" tool in order to change my screen zoom, a data field appears when that tool is active and I can see the current camera zoom and I can modify the value to set a particular desired value. This let's me generate repeatable zoom values for the screen so that my captured objects are of a consistent size, especially from one work session to the next. Yes, I can define new "Named Views", but because I cannot set the camera zoom, I have no way to ensure identical camera zoom (and thus identical object size) from one Named View to the next. The inability to set a numerical value for camera zoom, and thus the inability to obtain repeatable images, ends up being a show-stopper with regard to utilizing Fusion 360 as the basis for my technical illustration. (Or am I missing something?  - Entirely possible.) Show More

The Form function in Autodesk Fusion 360 is a powerful tool able to make complex parts with G2 Surface continuous tangency for aerodynamic and fluid dynamic applications. Although there is a strong desire to be polymorphic to the point of being almost amoeba like in transformation, animation and definition. The difficulty is to transform shapes in multiple direction in three or more axes at the same time – this has not been done due to effects of one transformation on another elements/nodepoints and the mathematics would be daunting even for the cloud  - So what else can be done? Use the capability of Loft function – working in the back ground ( two parallel workspaces) to find the desired profiles that can be found between Starting profile and End profile. This process semi-automates handling sketch profiles (2D) on separate planes. Working one plane at a time and moving on to the next plane in master work space. The “morphing” provides the specificity and exactness of change of shape rather than freelance with numerous repetitions to construct the shape. Use sketches to show starting profile A and End profile B Call out ‘n’  section cuts or Call Dynamic  at height ‘Z” for loft surface Software will automatically Loft a surface/shape body in a protected workspace Bring up master sketch ( the screen will split - so you will have two workspaces) Increment /Dynamic section ( + Button) through section cuts that will appear in Master Workspace-  to find desired profile Desired profile can be scaled to fit (option) - if the section cut  doesn’t meet target point or location Save desired profile at plane location. Move to next plane/sketch and create a new profile B ( end goal profile) Repeat steps 2 thru 5 Build Loft and/or surface model in Master Workspace. Software will indicate g2 tangency is Good and exact  and notify otherwise if results are different. I have submitted an earlier concept called incremental morphing and translation which needed further clarification for the developers to understand idea being proposed. There are two parts to this idea. I am going to explain the first in this submission - in more detail. The second involves shape morphing which will be a future submittal.    Incremental Morphing for the Manufacturing Engineer is a tool that can check worse case conditions of assembly conditions within an engineering tolerance envelope that parts do not work/fit/align etc. Parts are to engineering and do not work - this  is a nightmare for engineers and they need a tool to augment virtual conditions to prevent this situation from happening too often.   What this tools needs: 1.) Separate protected workspace 2,) Ability to Copy sketches 3.) Smart draw elements - point and click to change size of copied draw element per increment of tolerance 4.) Overlay and align smart sketches 5.) Relocate (incremental translation) certain features to show discrepant worse case conditions. 6.)  Passing of variables (only) proofed and verified sent back to original sketch to make corrections to model 7.) Copy and Export  View as PDF to a existing management report. 8.) Software indicate by flag/notice a discrepant condition   My attachment shows a simple rectangle as an example as a start of concept to show how incrementally morphing should occur. The savings of computer file space and reduction of clutter, plus using draw elements is a great benefit besides a semi-automated verification method to goof proof assemblies and parts. The origin of Fusion 360. It was a plugin called "T-Splines for Rhino" (*).   Then Autodesk bought this firm (T-Splines (*)) and killed the plugin for Rhino, saying to all its users they should switch to Fusion 360. Now, 6 years after Fusion 360 launching, it definitely cannot replace Rhinoceros (rhino3d.com),  and Rhinoceros users cannot use T-Splines plugin (*) and there is no other alternative.   Fusion 360 is a inflated software with strong deficiencies at surface design, it try to replace a lot of existing software like SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, etc - but it fails. It wants to do everything, but....   I made a suggestion for Fusion 360 Developers 5 years ago, that idea has received 213 votes, 35 comments and it is marked as "Future Consideration", my idea is a feature existing in Rhinoceros since 2011!   Please Autodesk: return the T-Splines plugin back for Rhino users, preferably free.
