High quality illustration output

High quality illustration output

As a response to the recent discussion on the use of AI or PDF formats for drawing output I would like to propose the introduction of output quality controls for 2D output from Fusion 360.

The current output quality is woefully inadequate. Line thickness should be selectable by the user as should line properties including dash patterns and colour. The fidelity of the curves should be managed too as the current abilities fall below the least acceptable level. Effort should be made to output the drawing/illustration with the relevant graphical primitives - polylines are generally not adequate.

For 2D illustrations more than one line wight should be used to give the impression of solidity.

I could go on, but perhaps this will become a topic for discussion.

I have a background as a technical illustrator and I would choose Fusion 360 over any other dedicated technical illustrators tool (IsoDraw for example) for the creation of illustrations if it were up to the job.

In my opinion the PDF export is not only inadequate - the path are utterly trash. The same happens when exporting from Autocad into PDF. Zoom in and check the line work - there is so much chaos like the curves have some software related ADSD 😉

Besides maybe line eport ideas what is even more important is being able to export cleanly.

A DXF export actually would be sufficient. From Rhino you can either export as line and acrs or natural which will make you a 1:1 copy of the forms/shapes just as bezier paths so you can open it in AI for example. Obviously for this need you want to select natural.

Thanks for considering this for the future. If you need any specific detailed requirements just ask. Even a functional specification if that would help.
