Hardware Compatibility

The level of frustration for a newbie installing Fusion 360 is greatly dependent on the software setup relative to his hardware.  Before you do anything, you need a tool that will help you check compatibility and configure the software to work with your hardware.  In my case, I had a mouse that should have been compatible but wasn't and a graphics configuration that was interfering with selecting planes and objects in Fusion 360.  At tool that could help sort that out will make for happier newbies.

I have a Roland EGX 300 desktop engraver that can only run on Windows XP.

What drivers does Fusion 360 need to operate this Roland machine? and can it run on windows 7 or 10? 32 bit

The input from jac.brown above about new user hardware compatibility is very like my own experience. While I have years of experience with computing systems and software (but not CAD), when I began using Fusion 360 via its learning tutorials, I was initially stymied because Fusion would not complete any modeling commands including simple things such as pan and draw a rectangle. There was no indication from the software as to why this was the case. Because the installation and activities such as initiating a new project and importing a 3D component per the tutorial worked properly, I felt that the core software was functioning properly  (and OK with my hardware) and assumed that I was at fault, perhaps by not performing some set-up action, but unable to determine the cause.

Eventually I discovered Fusion's graphics diagnostics function and selected its suggestion to limit graphic effects (such as shadowing etc.), and this cured my problem.

I now understand that my (embedded) graphics function is too limited and will upgrade. Improved Fusion error indication to the user would be helpful.
