Fusion 360 Frame Generator

Fusion 360 Frame Generator

I really loved the frame generator in inventor i always use then in making structural frames and now i am using Fusion 360 its time consuming making every profile sketch of each frame member. So having said that i really loved the frame generator to be integrated in fusion 360 thanks,

Let us know when you are ready for us to test.  Looks like a lot of good improvements!!

Awesome @matthew.nichols !

Thanks for the update. I made sure to vote, I'm hoping (along with many other people) that we can get this bumped up to being an official project and implemented in Fusion.

One thing I was wondering after watching your video - if you change the parent sketch (modify length and width) after implementing all your miters and trims, all the end conditions follow suit after changing lengths?

Thanks again for all your efforts.

@mitchEFUMS

There is still quite a bit of work to do.  It probably wont update automatically but that is something I am looking at trying to include by way of userparameters.

Beta Link

the link above is for the beta of the frame generator.  i have made some of it easier and got rid of the errors that were popping up.  Currently only square and rectangular tubing is working.

I did get a simple square pretty easily.  I change the top line folder name to Nichols360 and followed the instructions here: https://tapnair.github.io/installation.html

It was very straight forward.  I did get a couple of errors when putting together some frames but I need to do a better job following a process before I consider it the add-in and not something on my side.

I really like it, I am still a little partial to SolidWorks but I can probably get accustom to this and be equally efficient.

Thanks for putting a BETA out for us to play with.  I will send some updates and pics as I go.

Is the BETA available for Mac? If so, how do I install/run the add-in?

 @chadbromwich I think @matthew.nichols had it listed in the readme file of the download.  I am not a Mac person so I cannot answer but there are Mac OS X instructions listed in the link I referenced from Matthew's instructions.  I believe Fusion 360 is cross platform but what do I know.  Ohh, I know I like this add-in. 🙂

@chadbromwich

yes it will operate on a mac as well.  the instructions in the link that @Anonymous gave will help you get it going.

@Anonymous

glad to hear that you are liking it.  definitely give me feedback on anything that comes up because if i can get this portion working good enough then i can look at expanding it by adding more member types.

share some pics of what you are creating with it if you that is cool.

Glad to find this thread.  Having this as an option for Fusion will be great!

Thanks Matt!

This is the page I get when I click the link for the instructions. I will try to find the readme file in the download.

I was able to copy/paste the web address from the readme and make the admin work!

@matthew.nichols

I found this forum thread while looking to finish my Honors Aerospace Engineering assignment. When I use the link from above, it takes me to an error page. Could you please put out a link that works (I'm on Windows 10 with an Education License to Fusion 360, if that helps).

@matthew.nichols Great to see that someone has finally taken this on. I haven't tried it yet, but looking forward to it. Just a pity that it has so little support from ADSK. Frames and cutlists are absolutely essential for any structural engineering.  The weldment feature is really the only reason why people still spend money on Solidworks. Really a missed opportunity for ADSK here.

Couldn't agree more.  This is the only reason that I ended up using solidworks to complete the CAD for this:

Please, please, please create the weldement functionality.

Also, make the sheet metal tool better.  Not being able to do offset bends is a pain in the arse.
