In real life, many times you have to deal with cables/hoses of a fixed length, which you have no way to change. But, you want to model the best path, for those cables/hoses. It would be nice to have a feature allowing to give a fixed length to a spline, still allowing to modify at will the path, but with no changes in length.

+1 have been struggling with this in working on a kayak recently - trying to reverse engineer a design which provides the linear length of the ribs to bend, and want to be able to reproduce in model form - currently very time consuming trial and error process.
