equation driven surfaces

Many users in the optical industry and some in the educational area require high precision reflectors for laser and astronomy purposes as well as lenses.

It would be nice to be able to define a 3d equation describing a surface in fusion 360 so that it can be manufactured using a cnc.

The equations allow for easy alteration of focal lengths and angles on parabolic and hyperbolic surfaces. Unfortunately splines just dont have the accuracy

required and converting hyperbolic equations to formats other than there natural format is not easy (impossible for some). The idea of creating surfaces on other programs and importing them as an iges file may sound like a good idea but the inaccuracies introduced are too great for cutting edge technologies. For instance a hyperbolic curve can be made using the equation of a line and then rotated but if the hyperbolic equation is offset this does not produce the curve required. Also splitting an equation up so that an equation for a line can be lofted along another equation for a line is undesirable due to the math involved. (i am assuming this is possible but i would not want to try and work out the math - it may not be)

 

This is just a sugestion and for lenses refraction would also have to be considered but it would be nice/easier

also solid works have not manage this either so good luck

Thank you for your idea, this is getting archived due to the amount of core workflows that I would like to provide a solution for before looking into a solution for equation driven surfaces.  For example the team has 3D constraints, 3D dimension, CV splines and driven dimensions in their backlog.
