Emboss Feature

Emboss Feature

I think it would be great if Autodesk could make an Emboss feature somehow similar to the feature you have in Inventor:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRAIIM4_KRI

It would be great if we could use this feature with text, sketch and imported svg files.

Thanks,

CA

Yep wrap a sketch is needed. Basically the workflow of customers is the one:

- Designing their logo flat on illustrator with the length equal to the perimeter of the diameter

- Convert it in SVG

- Wrap the sketch on the cylinder

It might be good to add a scale on the sketch too, it would be perfect!

Emboss, Deboss, and Wrap will all be necessary at some point.

Thanks!

I just want to reinforce the idea that after wrapping a sketch around a face and being able to make an emboss / deboss, it would be great if it could be done on double curvature surfaces.

Thanks,

I'm a solidworks user. I would use the "wrap" feature in solidworks to perform the engrave, emboss. This feature is also important when generating cam profiles because it maintains the linear dimensions from the 2D sketch. So if I need a particular cam angle, but on a curved surface, it is driven from the 2D sketch. This also makes it easy to machine using 2D code. I think this feature is essential and should be a high priority on the development list.

You can already Extrude Text, so it's very similar to what is in Inventor... or am I missing something?

i think you are missing the point that we need to extrude/emboss onto a curved surface, the only current option is to extrude text straight out from a curved surface and the text really needs to be extruded out radially.  the emboss tool in inventor is exactly what fusion needs. so please get on this. how  can you be so lax in this way ? if your product is to be easy for people to use then this feature needs to be included!!

this is garbage the way you currently have to emboss text onto a curved surface! how can you ppl put out software that doesn't include an emboss  tool?? the autodesk inventor emboss to is exactly what fusion needs!!! so you geniuses get off your **** and get on it!!!

What a rude post. Is it too much to ask for you to show a little respect for others?

Definitely wrap sketch!

I see this feature is still not available.  Would it be safe to say that Fusion doesn't offer this because it would make Inventor less appealing given the price difference?  If so - that's completely legit., however it would be nice for us to know, so we stop asking for this and move on to other programs that have it.  Please... let us know.  Thanks!

@erikj7,

The reason why emboss has not been implemented has nothing to do with other CAD products.  It's prioritized in my back log based off of many defining business variables.  Right now the team that will work on this is integrating standardized holes and threads.

Thanks Mike. Is there a time frame you all are shooting for to have the feature in Fusion?

inventore is not the only program that has emboss features. most other
programs have this type of feature. so why not fusion!!

Hi keqingsong,

thank you very much for your post. In fact, for the past weeks, we are using this method for "embossing" on our daily work.

For the majority of the applications, we are going to use this workaround. It's a great, great improvement. Thanks a lot! 🙂

However, there are some specific applications in which we aren't able to use it.

For example, when we need to use a kind of "wrap function".

You say that people need to try different modelling methods before starting to ask for more features on Fusion 360.

We totally agree with you on this topic. That's what we already do every day.

However, if there is a way to improve we also are the first ones to ask for that improvement.

As for the "wrap function" you suggest, we aren't able to use it because our company doesn't own the "Ultimate" version.

I believe that the sheet metal module only exists in the "Ultimate" version.

Best regards,

CA

I have ended here to find a solution for wrapping in general not just text I am thankful for the help but this feature should be a priority list on top of other things. That would be my feedback so thanks for listening.

I agree, the emboss feature in Inventor is great and will follow contours. Please consider this for fusion 360
