edge curvature control

edge curvature control

In this model I can have curvature

Or crease

Or some edge whit crease or curvature

but you can not change the weight of the curvature

I'd like to change the weight of the curvature of some edge without entering subdivisions

Inputting a command that allows you to change from 0 = a crease to 1 = maximum curvature

I know this has been a part of T-splines in Rhino (I have seen it in a video, and read about it online: http://www.tsplines.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=29486&p=33737). Having this option could greatly reduce the amount of geometry needed for sharper edges, contour-lines etc. Color-coding the verts (white for unweighted, orange for weighted or whatever) and a "reset all weights"-button would help to make this easier to understand.

I used Catia at a previous job (those were dark days 😛 ) and this was very useful while using the "Imagine and Shape"-subdivision module. I remember modeling and rendering concepts for 6-7 chairs and a couple of sofas in a single day using this tool, and so far T-splines looks like it could be faster still.

Oh yeah, other than that, please don't make Fusion anything like Catia in any way! 😛 I love the way this software is shaping up. 🙂

Thanks for the feedback thbruun, we will take this into consideration.

Hi thbruun, weighted verts is on our list for the sculpt tools.  I agree that it is an easier way to control edge sharpness without adding extra geometry. We will also have tools for control the fall off of weights so that edges can get sharper or softer as they move along an edge.  Thanks for the feedback.

You can do this in Blender exactly as described.

ok

but BLENDER is not easy to use

you can also do it in CATIA IMA, but I would like to do in Fusion360.

Edge/Crease weighting is not technically possible with T-Splines AFAIK. The math does not suppot it (yet ?).

You can do this in Blender because Blender is a Subdivision Surface  modeling tool  and while it might behave similarly to T-Splines when modeling it is very different mathematically.

CATIA is a NURBS modeller which is also mathematically different than T-Splines.

hi

CATIA  IMA  is similar to Fusion 360 I do not know which technology uses but you can change the curvature.

In Fusion360 I can already changing curvature but only of open surfaces.

it would be nice to be able to do even with the points inside.

What you are requesting is the ability to put weights on edges. It is pretty common in SUBD modeling, we have this on our roadmap but don't have it assigned at the moment.

It's like Hypernurbs modeling in Cinema 4D. You can put weights on Edges, Points and Surfaces. I used this a lot in hard surface modeling. That would be great to have it in Fusion 360 in my opinion!

This is in the backlog, release date is TBD.

Oh my. This was not something I was expexcting to be adressed anymore. 😋 Still hoping though! Would be awesome! More detail with less geometry. 😊

Hi guys!

I don't have previously experience in other 3D software but I am trying to learn Fusion 360 for fun.

I am having a hard time on the sculpting environment. sometimes my curves are too sharp or I have lines in "S" shape and I can't figure out how to fix it. Sometimes I use the box view to create or align something, but when I change to smooth view, some lines go far away from the place I would like to have it. Even when I create new lines and delete the bad ones, the new ones react the same way. An example of the sharp curves are in the pictures attached. Does anybody know what I am doing wrong?robot leg.pngrobot leg2.pngrobot leg3.pngrobot leg4.pngrobot leg5.png

Please share some sample models (export as .f3d and attach).

I'd be more than happy to look at them and suggest remedies.

@adam.helps Colin commented above that edge weights are in the backlog. That was in 2016. I am not sure who the current T-Spline responsible product manager is so I am tagging you as you've helped in T-Spline related topics before.

Edge weights would indeed solve many modeling problems and would be an absolute killer feature.

@TrippyLighting I don't know how to attach .f3d files here.

anyone?

@lenineds So over the course of the last 2 weeks or so you've not been able to figure out how to attach a design ?

Here's a link that explains the steps.
