This idea is to suggest a 'Duplicate' command that combines copy & paste into a single command. The motivation is to save clicks when the copied component is to be pasted on the same browser level as the source (copied) component.
This is how this idea came about. I'm working on an aluminium extrusion project in which several components are repeated several tens of times throughout the model, for example, bolts and brackets. For that reason, lately I've been making heavy use of copy & paste. Now, in this particular project, I've kept all brackets together under one sub-assembly named 'Brackets', but because there are several tens of brackets in the project, each time I want to paste a bracket I need to scroll all the way up to the parent component to ensure the item gets pasted in the correct sub-assembly. That's because hitting Ctrl+V will paste the item in the active component (the one with the black dot in the browser). The constant scrolling becomes a problem once the list is longer than the display height can accommodate. The aim of this idea is to eliminate the need for scrolliing.
The Duplicate command would copy the source component and paste it in the same sub-assembly as the source component, all with a single click. This action would be represented in the timeline just as a regular CopyPaste, because that's exactly what it is. For completeness, there could be yet one more command called 'Duplicate New', akin to 'Paste New'. The same principle could be applied to bodies.
The only time copy and paste need to be used separately is when the pasted component and the source component are in different sub-assemblies.
