drafted extruded text

drafted extruded text

It's often useful to put text on molded parts. Molding typically requires at least a bit of drafting, but the only way I can get drafting to work with extruded text is to go into Illustrator, export as SVG (paths not test), import it, cleanup the things that are wonky (it doesn't come in clean for some reason) and then extrude.

It'd be extremely helpful to just be able to type something out in F360, extrude it with draft and be done.

I've found if you explode the text in Fusion then extrude without draft you can add draft after the text is extruded. For some reason it fails if you try and add the draft at the same time as the extrude. It is a bit tedious picking all the faces for the draft though.

Mark.

Yeah I've done it that way (actually even with the SVG import).. and, as you said, it is a huge PITA when you have 10 letters and each has a bunch of faces.

That's tolerable (though not nice) when it's something going into a production mold, but it's very annoying when it's for a one-off or short run bridge tooling that only costs a few k$ but needs drafting.

I finally found the Select Through option on the Select menu, makes selection a lot quicker as long as there's nothing else you might select by mistake.

Adding this to the text enhancements list.

I've posted the same idea but in the wrong forum it was in360 Ideas.

Anyways it might be easier if they just made a tapered font? Just a thought.

We do greensand molding so the taper if pretty important. don't need much just need some.

After 5 years the letter extrusion with taper has still not been solved. Depending on the font different letters in a word do not extrude when taper is not Zero. Very frustrating when you have to change the text often as the missing letters have to be extruded and tapered individually. Why have this feature of extrusion and taper or letters when it clearly does not work

They just need to start with one font a block style I think would work best. Maybe code it where you can select the bottom of the letter adjust the size then be able to select the top face and be able to adjust the size? Your right it would probably have to be done on a letter by letter bases. Kind of like in tinker cad but instead of just dimension of a cube be able to select faces. I can see how it might work in my head but I’m no coder.
