Dogbone Fillet Feature

Dogbone Fillet Feature

Hi,

i think the fillet feature should be expanded or there should be another feature added to simplify the creation of dogbone fillets for machining. No matter if we're using Fusion360 CAM or just preparing parts to be machined in other applications it would be extremely handy to have a solid dogbone fillet creation tool.

I know there's already an addin but

a) it's quite unstable and doesn't work in many situations without beeing really responsive in telling the user what's going wrong.

b) it doesn't integrate very well within timeline and parametric editing which would be great to have for easily editing fillets afterwards.

I think this might make a good addition to the fillet feature as an additional type and therefore not add clutter to the interface.

Thanks,

Frank

Although I wouldn't go search this in the fillet feature, so for me adding it to the fillet feels weird the new feature it's self is something that indeed is needed for nearly any type of manufacturing.

@Laurens-3DTechDraw I agree, this is a great idea.  However I would not put it in the fillet command.

It could be expanded to have options for drilling out the corner etc. also.

Status changed to: Future Consideration

Thank you for your idea, this idea is being changed to future consideration.  There is a great dogbone fillet plugin that is available in the link below.  We will evaluate including dogbone in our fillet enhancements later this fall when we explore what else is need to build our fillet tool.

Here is the Github repository that Casey created! https://github.com/caseycrogers/Dogbone

Additionally, here is a YouTube video we put together that shows the functionality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAET7rx_wYE

Any movement on this?  The dogbone plugin is OK... it breaks pretty easily when you have to use history and have a lot of fillets.  We don't use this anymore due to having some pretty large projects become useless when changes occur to parameters.  It's also extremely slow.

It's been since June that this has been updated.  We are limited if we want to use the CAM features and this doesn't exist.  Have to create each individual dogbone with a line constrained to 45 degrees, bit diameter center circle dim'd to 1/2 bit diameter from the corner.  We feel like robots doing this in a project and it take a TON of time.  Seems like a relatively simple and significantly powerful feature to add vs. a plugin.

Personally, I think the dogbone script is an interesting cludge but it's not useful; it sprays a _lot_ of stuff into a model, and it's pretty miserable to get rid of it.  The feature belongs in CAM.

I'm not sure whether dogbones would be best in CAM or as part of the fillet tool, but this would be a huge time saver. The dogbone plugin is too limited and flakey. I have parts, for instance, where the edges are in the x direction, but it only supplies options for y and z. It also is failing regularly, sometimes with an error that results in no dogbones and sometimes it just doesn't create the dogbones. At times I get dogbones where none should go.

I'm now at the point where I've gotten pretty good at making a model in Fusion 360, but adding in all of the tolerances and dogbones that I need to actually machine it on my Shopbot is incredibly tedious and not all that productive.

I'v tried the suggested DogBone plugin, but keep getting exceptions, and no actual dogbones, though I tried it in ideal clean sheet design.

So I would like to weight in on the actual feature. I would be totally happy with it being a fillet command option.

This would greatly streamline and simplify furniture design for CNC routing. Takes so much more time to add these changes downstream in VCarve, especially once you get into highly complex files.  Gets even worse if you have to make a change in Fusion.  Then you have to redo all your dogbone/tbone fillets all over again.  😞

Please do this!

This feature would greatly reduce the work I have to do in an external program to produce dogbone fillets and definitely improve my workflow. Keeping most of the work in fusion always helps!
