divide command

divide command

Greetings,

I’ve been resisting making the transition from Rhino to Fusion … In many ways I find it easier to use Rhino when teaching students who are new to design and making. 2D drawing and fully defining a sketch in Fusion can be frustrating. However, with so many great features in Fusion, especially in the areas of collaboration and CAM, I’m now committed to making the change.

One command we use frequently that appears to be missing in Fusion is the is the divide command.  When laying out a finger joint for fabrication, the ability to select a line or arch and divide by a number of segments is essential. I’ve seen work around techniques of using a rectangular array pattern with a point but a divide command would make the process a lot easier.

Thanks,

rbrodie

Trouble is it will not be parametric so you'd have to add dimensions to all the semenents. Solid modeling programs use a different philosophy and sticking to Rhino\AutoCAD workflows will just frustrate. The rule I was taught 15/20 years ago using Alibre is keep sketches as simple as possible and pattern features, this rule was taught before for solidworks as well. I see people all the time trying to force Fusion to work link AutoCAD\Rhino and it doesn't end with efficient\robust designs.

I like to have this feature, I'm used to having this in both Rhino and SolidWorks. While it may not be parametric it can be extremely useful in the T-Splines environment which isn't parametric to begin with.

As an example if you have two different curves you can place points along those curves equidistant from another and equal to the number of edges in your T-Splines body that you're trying to align. Once the points are placed you can use them as a reference to align your T-Splines edges. It's a quick/easy accurate way of evening out your T-Splines edges. Once I'm done with it I simply delete the reference sketch.

I built an addin to divide sketch curves into a user-specified number of pieces.  Please let me know if this is what you were looking for, if you find any bugs, or you can think of any other features it should have. (Windows only for now, sorry!)
