Can you tell us what your objective is for deleting Automatic Contacts? The reason I ask is because we always generate contacts automatically during solve, whether you have already generated them or not. So if you deleted an Automatic Contact it would get recreated during solve. If an Automatic Contact is not the type you need or you just don't want Contact in that location, you can just edit the Contact to change the type or Suppress the Contact. A suppressed contact will not get recreated during solve, it will just be ignored.
I want to delete them for a couple of reasons. One, they don't model the system I am trying to simulate. Sometimes, it is easier to delete a group of contacts and re-run the automatic contacts after changing the default type. (I had been trying to select multiple contacts, clicking the pensile to edit them. This only edited the one contact. I recently discovered that when I select multiple contacts, right click > edit, it will change all of them. So I don't delete them for that reason any more.) Sometimes, the geometry has changed, and the contact is no longer valid. It shows up as an error, and I can't delete it.
After reading your e-mail, I realized that you do re-run automatic contacts when solving. I also noticed that you re-run the meshing. So, I run automatic contacts and wait 5 minutes for it to complete. Then I run meshing and wait 10 minutes for it to complete. Then I wait 30 minutes for it to solve. Am I waiting an extra 15 minutes for it to redo completed tasks? Thanks,-John

Currently, we do generate the Mesh and Automatic Contacts during Solve even if you have already done them manually. So if you don't want to check or modify the Mesh or Contacts before solving then yes, it is a bit of a waste of time to generate them before solving. However, we are working on improving this so that if you generate them and there are no changes that affect them, we will not re-generate them. We are also working on a new Contact Manager that will allow you to modify multiple Contacts at once.
That is good to hear. It would be great if we could filter contacts by parts. When you have 50 parts, 250 contacts, it helps to be able to select a part and then see just the contacts with that part. Also, while were at it, ... can we get mesh controls? A mesh control allows you to select a face, feature, body, ... and set meshing parameters for that feature. This allows more detail in an area of interest, or less detail in an area of no interest. That makes it possible to shorten solve time, and provide more details where needed. Thanks,-John

We now have a new Contacts Manager which allows you a more comprehensive view and edit control of all Contacts in Fusion Simulation. Also, we now have Local Mesh Control (located on the Manage panel). You have to regenerate the Mesh after applying the local control in order to see the affect. Check them out and let us know what you think.
Fusion is still generating automatic contacts without being told to do so. I had a design with two components in which I am trying to do a Thermal Stress analysis. I created ONE manual contact, but Fusion created at least ten automatic contacts--which I now cannot delete.
@neljoshua We will always run Automatic Contacts whether you do do it explicitly before solve or it gets done implicitly during solve. We have no plans to change this behavior. We do this because it's common for new and novice users to not use manual contacts and it makes life a bit easier for them. We realize expert users will likely use manual contacts where they need them. For experts we recommend applying your manual contacts then running Automatic Contacts prior to solving, then suppress the Automatic Contacts you don't want. Also, with the new Contacts Manager, you can select multiple contacts (Ctrl or Shift select) then suppress them all. If suppressed contacts are getting unsuppressed during solve then let me know because that would be a defect.
I'm using Fusion just a few days ago. I also run into this strange behavior that I cannot delete auto contacts.
Unfortunately I have one auto contact that defines the relation of master and slave bodies the wrong way for me. (I would like to assign an asymmetric contact to the faces in question.)
I cannot change master/slave of the auto contact. Nor can I manually assign a new contact to these two faces, because the existing rule blocks it.
I have three options:
1. accept the wrong maste/slave configuration and try to evaluate the results
2. start a new simulation and recreate everything
3. work around: go back to modeling, change the distance of the faces so auto contacts in simulation will discover a broken rule, so now I can delete it.
I would appreciate saving me the effort of 2 or 3, so I could delete that auto contact.
I iterate a lot and this makes contacts outdated anyway, so the option of deleting is not that a big deal in my opinion.
I just discovered that I can edit more rules at once in this topic. It seems really important for me and saves a lot of time.
I cannot generate it manually , since Fusion reports this: The selected entities are already referenced by contact "[S] Bonded1 [Body9||Body12]"
Suppression state does not change this.
I tried selecting multiple contacts and editing them together with no success. I only have "suppress" in the right click context menu. Maybe You used this functionality in an earlier version of Fusion?
You also mentioned default contact type, but i could not locate it. Where can I set it?
Auto contacts generates 60 to 100 bonded contacts for me (depending on project), and I need separation most of the times, but Fusion always generates bonded. I can only change these one by one, or add them manually...
Some other inconvenient properties are:
List by Contact Set view list them in wrong order like: bonded1
bonded10
bonded11
bonded2
bonded3
List by Bodies section lists them in proper order, but lists a lot of irrelevant contacts for each body. For example contacts of neighbour components are also listed.
1) Click on Contacts > Automatic Contacts, if you haven't already. This should generate the Automatic Contacts.
2) Expand the Browser until you can see "Contacts" Double Click on it. You should see the Contacts Manager.
3) Click on the fist Contact listed. Shift + Click on the last Contact listed. All contacts should be selected.
4) Right Click over any selected contact. A right click menu should appear.
5) Select "Suppress Contact Set" All contacts should say "(Suppressed)"
They will now be ignored during the solve process.
Similarly, you can edit multiple contacts at the same time. Just follow Steps 1 - 3 above, then do one of the following:
a: Select a new Contact Type by clicking on the down arrow, then select a new Contact Type. All Selected Contact Types will be updated.
b: Select a new Penetration Type by clicking on the down arrow, then select a new Penetration Type. All Selected Penetration Types will be updated.
c: Click on the pencil and edit all the contacts at once.
Also note that you should be able to edit the properties of an automatic contact. You should be able to change the Contact type and Penetration Type of an automatically generated contact.
Lastly, you are correct. The default type mentioned earlier in the thread has not been available since the Simulation Module has been updated.
