The idea of the spline being in relationship to the surface direction is very good and very helpful as I do not want to have to split a surface first to get a border edge I could make a sketch spline tangent to.
No doubt that is a nice method of keeping a constraint between a curve and a surface. You are probably aware of similar methods in Alias but you would probably want to make sure this could be maintained for a parametric workflow as well. We will keep this in mind as we develop our 3D curve capabilities.
Great I think this is a pretty important and useful tool. I am not sure about Alias if they can do it, I assume. I know SolidThinking SolidWorks and such can.
