Curve Network Command Needed

Curve Network Command Needed

Hi folks,

here is a quick screencast showing you how the curve network command in Rhino works. Fusion sometimes taps into the same direction like with the loft command but there is a lot more to curve network specifically when you work with complex curve layouts.

I hope the video explains itself well:

Curve network is a handy one for Rhino.  In SolidWorks this is handled pretty well by Loft because you can pick profile curves in one direction and add guide curves in the other.  SolidWorks later added Boundry Surface which works almost the same but annoyingly different at the same time.

If memory serves Loft in Rhino only allows profile curves in 1 direction.

I like Rhino, but there is a tendency for what seems like every possibility to have its own tool. Lots of menu items that do almost the same thing.  I went on a small rant in what I think was a thread called Lofting Help about this.  Revolve, and Rail Revolve being the same.  Sweep and Sweep 2 Rails also being the same feature.

I think my personal preference would lean towards an expanded more powerful Loft tool in F360 over the addition of a new specialized Curve Network tool.

I fully agree with you here. Rhino has many great tools and thousands of variations of them, that really blows up the interface.

Combining functions into a logical ueber tools would be really welcome.

There is really no need for a rail 1 rail 2 command.

I once tried this with Fusion and it worked well.

While the steps required here are a bit insane the patch tool was a nice surpice to see how it can also blend not just fill planar curves.

This step in Rhino would require me to make a curve network.

With curves however I can have more control over the way how the surface is being skinned I think, but I dont have much SW experience here.

this would indeed be a really cool addition and I miss this from what I saw in Rhino too!

@keqingsong How is this imported? Fusion does not have curve networks.

Loft can use rails that look like cNetworks but the rails have no ability for G1 or G2.

They are strickt G0.

Did I miss something?

Adding this to advanced modeling list.  Definately a direction we want to go.
