Creating a fold on a face of a flat flange from a sketch line In sheet metal

Creating a fold on a face of a flat flange from a sketch line In sheet metal

Hi,

In sheet metal when designing a flange is would be great if we could select a flat face of the flange, sketch a line across, then select the flange and the line to create a fold in the flange. then we would just have to adjust the angle to what we need for the bend.

This would give us more freedom of using angles when creating a folded flange.

Example:  Here is screen shot of a flange with a line sketch in the middle of it showing where the flange would be folded.

Thanks

Would love to see Fusion 360 create sheet metal components with multiple sketches as face flange creation.

Imagine the low poly panels you could make with this...

The ability to place a bend on a sheet metal face by sketching a bend line and using it to locate a bend is of paramount importance.

Think about legacy 2D flat patterns that can be easily ported to the 3D environment by: Importing a 2D flat pattern > applying thickness & properties > fold along bend lines.

We do it all the time in mid to high end CAD packages so why not in Fusion 360?

(BTW: Alibre Design has had this functionality from the first time they added sheet metal to the tool set, several years ago in version 4).

Sorry for a duplicate of this idea. I had even brought it up during sheetmetal preview and it sounded like it wouldn't be much of a consideration at the time but something It would be very helpful with is reusing an existing sheetmetal flat pattern from a different CAD program untill Fusion is able to accomplish that on its own.  I have loads of SW sheetmetal I need to use regularly, It sure would be nice to use those flat patterns in Fusion now and finally be able to drop SW!

It should be possible to insert bends from a sketch (line), because not all types of flanges could be modeled at the moment. Just sketch on a sheet metal surface and use as bend line

I agree, this would be excellent.  I have a slightly different issue, my company has many components in the flat and I have been asked to convert them back to rendered images for use in our literature.  If I could simply select a construction line for the flange and not be restricted to an edge, this would resolve I believe my problem.

Hi,

I am re-posting this request, as I haven't seen a response or comment on this issue.

Believe me when I say there is good income potential developing 3D models and assemblies from old 2D drawings as companies are scrambling to capture the knowledge and know how of their retiring work forces.

I think the ability of Fusion 360 to import and work with legacy 2D flat pattern (DWG/DXF) into the sheet metal work flow would greatly enhance the usefulness of the application and help to drive sales.

I see that Oshape does not have that functionality, but Geomagic Alibre Design has provided this functionality from the earliest releases. The ability to identify a bend axis and apply sheet metal bends using default bend parameters (or not) would be extremely helpful.

Thank You

Could the option of adding a fold line in an existing face after the part has been created as opposed to only being able to add flanges on existing outer edges

this needs to happen!.. would be very useful!

This feature would help me also.  We have a bunch a flat patterns (DXF) from SolidWorks designs we need to bring into Fusion and bend them at other then existing edges.

As it appears by the latest product road map- the remaining sheet metal functionality has been back-burnered, can we at least have a basic sketched bend line function?

Existing sheet metal flat patterns or DXF from another CAD system could then be imported into Fusion, turned into a sheet metal part and bend lines added manually to create a usable sheet metal model in Fusion. Not as optimal as Fusion doing the needed task of recognizing an existing sheet metal model but better than redoing months of sheet metal work for a crucial function. I wanted Fusion to be my only CAD package but I still have to keep two going to get the job done.

Besides, its just a handy (& simple?) tool to have!

I am in full agreement with Bestillsicsu.

I have requested this functionality on two occasions. Sheet metal fabrication is probably the most wide spread process in industry and the tools necessary to do the job must be available to serious Fusion360 users.

Sounds like we all need tools to turn a sheet metal pattern into 3D... Would be great to see!

To me, this is a fundamental requirement in sheet metal with huge functionality- Please Autodesk!!!

I'm surprised this hasn't gotten more votes.

I've never used SM before and the very first part I need it for requires this function, but no can do.

Same here, I have tons of flat pattern from AutoCAD and find out that it is not possible to create a bend with a sketch.  Would love to have this feature as it would extremely helpful.

To overcome this, I will try to use the flat pattern in Creo, create all the bends, import it into Fusion as dummy part and hope that it will work.

I also think this is a fundamental feature, and I am also surprised it is not supported.

The lack of this feature makes Fusion360 amateur in terms of sheet metal design IMHO

There were many times I also needed this feature.

I'm also waiting for the fold command. It was a functionality I often used in Inventor. I'm looking forward to reuse in Fusion 360.

Hi,

I also hope this feature would be part of fusion 360! Thanks!
