Create Parameter Name whilst adding a Sketch Dimension

It would be great to have the abilty to create a new name for Parameters when placing a new Sketch Dimension. At the moment Fusion 360 records them as d1, d2, d3 etc. which is fine, but a lot of the time it makes things easier to have names, i.e. Length, Width, Height.

In Inventor you can name the Parameter, whilst creating and placing the sketch dimension, which saves a lot of time downstream. To do this you would type 'Length = 100' etc. Do this in Fusion 360, and it doesn't work.

5 years later... any update?

@ayapejian other than the add-in I posted further up on the thread which gets most of the way there, not that I've seen, no. I believe Autodesk has squirreled this issue away at the very back of their backlog, as seems to be their wont, especially with simple issues.

To be able to create a user parameter while sketching would be great. The proposed way of doing this is to have an assignment in the dimension expression:

MyNewParameter = 123

And also allow for general expression (just as the dimensions and parameter values already allows for):

MyNewParameter = SomeOtherParameter - 10

Yes to in-line param creation, e.g. Length: 22mm or Radius: 45deg

While we are at it, would be very helpful to be able to either toggle on/off display of UPs in the sketch and to right-click a UP to find all occurrences of that UP's use.

Hi everyone,

As we prepare to update our sketch roadmap I wanted to provide an update for this specific request. This is on our roadmap and is being reviewed for possible future work. As that gets closer we will share more about the specific items we are working to address and ask for additional input.

Thanks,

John
