I used to use Inventor and that software had a feature that allowed you to convert an extruded shape to sheet metal. This was so helpful. So often you extrude a shape and then wish you working in sheet metal mode. I would love for Fusion 360 to bring this over from Inventor.
This has been requested before and I think is on the roadmap but too many Fusion features don't seem to get finished. For now there are a couple of workarounds.
This screencast demonstrates the easiest method, it doesn't always work. If you get stuck on a part make a post in the design forum for the other method. In this method make sure the thickness of the part and the sheetmetal rule used to create the sheet metal component match.
Sheetmetal overall is adequate, especially relative to price, but this feature still surprises me that it is missing. The workflows to get around this work, but the fact they work makes it even more silly that it is not just implemented correctly.
Hopefully soon this is finally a proper tool in sheetmetal.
