Command Line - the ability to type commands at will

Command Line - the ability to type commands at will

I am an industrial designer and machinist. Currently I am using Rhinoceros as my modelling software with the RhinoCAM plugin attached to handle my machining needs. I am a proficient SolidWorks user, however I prefer not to use SolidWorks and all other CAD/CAM packages that I have come across because how fast I am able to move through the Rhino3D interface.

In Rhino I am able to type the command of almost any feature that I can think of or use on a daily basis.

In the attached photo I am sweeping two curves to make a surface, in order to do this the only actions I have to perform are as follows:

1. Type "sweep2" (if I have used this command a few times recently, I don't even have to finish typing the command)

2. Press "Enter"

3. Follow the instructions to complete the command

4. Press Enter

This entire process takes about 5 seconds MAX! It is for this reason I use a one handed keyboard.

Please incorporate a command line. This would be the most beneficial addition to Fusion360 in my opinion.

Thank you,

Joseph L. Kabenji

I bet you could write an Add-on for that. The API has hooks for most of that functionality, you just need to create a comand line window and assign specific calls to specific actions. Or at least they would bring up the dialog window

I've never written an add-on before. What coding language is it? Do you know of a good tutorial?

I don't code. Thou I work with people who do. Unfortunately untill these requests get popular, they won't get made. That's why I requested a new idea station topic for add-ins

Let's see how that goes

I agree. I am formally trained in AutoCAD and use it for my job of 12 years.

I find it puzzling that when trying to use another AutoDESK product, the guys that revolutionized CAD, that they didn't include much compatibility.

It's a major PITA to draw something in F360, when in AutoCAD, it could be done in 1/10th the time (SWAG).

A traditional command line interface that accepts the AutoCAD commands would make this a much better app for experienced users.

Even Dassault added AutoCAD commands and command line into its FREE 2D software, Draftsight... the commands are that common/well known.

eta: forgot to mention, I'm a student / hobbyist machinist using F360 for the CAM functionality.  F360 is a major supporter of my market, so I respect that.

Mastercam and Solidworks are provided at school, but trying to learn yet 1-2 more cad programs ain't gonna happen.  My experience with F360 has me ahead of the learning curve.
